Boo :(

Spencer had been doing so well; only one accident max a day since starting his ABs although most days there were no accidents He finished his ABs on sunday morning but still on the cystease. All good until today - he had his first overnight accident in a week and has just been and peed on the floor in the kitchen next to the litter tray.

I've cleaned it up, put more litter in the tray and even taken the hood off the one under the table as they haven't been using it and put it next to the other one that he keeps peeing next to! He's just been in the tray behind the tv, not even 10 minutes after peeing on the floor, and had another pee!

I'm guessing the ABs will have worn off now - about 2.5 days after finishing them? I was hoping it wasn't them that was helping as I'm not sure what the next step is if it is?

Re: Boo :(

OH NO!!! Such a shame that the ABs have not stopped the problem. I'm guessing it's back to the vet With everything he has gone through and what you have done to stop it happening, I'm starting to think it's a behavioural problem or he can still smell the fatty acids where he has peed before and is just going back there because he thinks it's ok?

Re: Boo :(

I don't think it is because he can smell it or he would still have been doing it when on his ABs? He's had no overnight accidents in a week and would have thought if he could smell it he would have went then and he went for days without having an accident. It's the fact it basically stops when he's on ABs and then starts again when he stops them. That's twice now so I'm failing to believe it's a coincidence. Just wish could get to the bottom of it

Re: Boo :(

Ah fair enough I must of misread it somewhere that he had accidents on the ABs but not as many Very strange indeed. I can't remember did he have bloods done or a scan?

Re: Boo :(

He had accidents but no overnight accidents and maybe only 3 or 4 the whole time he was on them. Considerably less than the 3 or 4 a day he was having before.

Re: Boo :(

Oh wow that was a big improvement! No it wouldn't be the smell in that case. Hmm...not sure what to suggest except to talk to the vets and see what the next step is Sorry that the ABs have not stopped it completely though. Xxx

No accidents since I posted yesterday so hope it was just a little set back. Will need to speak to the vet again today or tomorrow (need to phone and see when he is next on duty) as his cystease finishes on monday. Will mention it to him and see what he thinks is best next.

Good thing is he's not just a vet, he's a small animal doctor! OH's mum says he spends hours trailing the net and stuff to research things - as I know since he printed stuff out for me about spraying etc but it's definitely not that as it's not on anything vertical and is big puddles of pee.
Kittenfostermummy likes this.

He did go a number of days without having an accident and when he did have one I think he was protesting about the litter tray being dirty (maybe 2 pees in it max) even though he has 4 trays to choose from which is why I've now put the other one they don't really use next to that one so hopefully one will be to his standards when he needs to go!

Re: Boo :(

It could be down to stress which is why he can go days using the tray as going twice in 10 minutes does sound UTI-ish and it could be the smallish insignificant thing that is stressing him and setting off a UTI as a stress reaction.
