Unhappy Would you do the same?

I have been lurking on the forum not being very active for a while but love watching all the cats and kittens grow up and all your pictures I have had a really upsetting time with my cat sitter and hoped for some advice

I go away a lot with work and normally a friend of mine stays at mine to house/cat sit. But sometimes she can't and then I have a cat sitter. She has been cat sitting humphrey and Freya since I got them and works at the vet.

But I came back from a weekend away yesterday to find 2 hungry and upset kitties. She hadn't been for at least one day I looked after them and eventually went to bed thinking I would send her an angry email the next day. But then I am woken up at 530 am by her sneaking in to feed them we both gave each other a fright and she left obv v upset.

She emailed today to apologise with an excuse about getting caught up in a friends wedding and has called but I don't want to speak to her. I asked her to just give my keys back and she did as well as some cat toys and treats. She has emailed again and is obv upset

But for me she has just broken my trust. I live alone and she keeps my keys...I trust her with my home, cats and essentially everything I own. I bought her a present at xmas too I dont think I could trust her again

Sorry for a long post - we got on so well when we saw each other at the vet. I am quite upset too. But would you be able to trust her again???

Re: Would you do the same?

I am so sorry. You must be very annoyed and upset and quite rightly so.
Why not give her the chance to explain and then see how you feel after that when you have slept on it a bit.
MoggyBaby and Oscars mam like this.

Re: Would you do the same?

TBH i could go either way, when you feel a little more calm and not so upset, give her the chance to explain and then see how you feel.
BUT if someone has broken my trust i find it impossible to rebuild that trust. I would be forever thinking if i left them in charge again ' what if she is not looking after them again' especially if it was over a longer period

Re: Would you do the same?

so how long had they gone without being fed or checked on?

TBH if it was my cats that had gone hungry or been left I would have gone gone of the deep end

Re: Would you do the same?

I think she is upset because she got caught out! Presumably you were paying her for this service? She obviously decided that she was having too much fun to leave the party, so it was a conscious decision. Presumably the wedding itself was planned some time in advance so she knew she had a clash of engagements but still accepted your job.

Well she says she did see them Saturday...so maybe 1.5 days...They are young and healthy so no harm done... But if they weren't then it could have been a lot worse...

They were really ... I can't describe it... different ... when I got home .... They're back to normal today tho

Re: Would you do the same?

I would find it very difficult to trust this person again.I would not be prepared to risk my cats welfare with someone who does not appear to take their commitments seriously. As for talking to her,if it was me she would be well advised not to try as she may hear somethings she would rather not.
