Any household tips for a new kitten slave..?

Hi, so as most of you now know (sorry ) I am soon to become a slave to a kitten. Having never had a young kitten before I am trying to think fo what I need to do to prepare.

I have already binned the poisonous house plants (thanks to the creator of the sticky thread on this)

I have realised I need to buy a bread bin rather than leave the loaf on the bread board in its bag as I do now.

All the chemicals are out of the way and I have cupboard locks as I have a toddler

I have checked areas for hidyholes and gaps, behind the fire etc and I think that all is ok there.

What else do I need to check?.....

Any ornaments that you would like to keep need to be put out of reach

You will probably find that even if you think you have thought of everything, they will surprise you with what they are capable of! It's a daily challange keeping up with them

Re: Any household tips for a new kitten slave..?

We have always baby/toddler proof the house but bearing in mind that in no time at all they are up on higher levels ie window sills cleared just incase they jump up knock off something and freak out jump down and the thing they have knocked off falls on thier heads, blinds are a no no in our house because of the cords and the risk of getting entangled in it some really good advise above too good luck with your new baby xx

If your house/flat is not open plan, but has doors to every room, then keep them all shut ! dont let kitty have run of the whole house, or else she will get into rooms and do things you rather she didnt do ! It only lasts for 6 months, then they start to calm down

This is especially true in my house. Amber takes any opportunity to "chase" water from any tap - the toilet water swirling round is absolutley the BEST INVENTION EVER (apparently)

I was lucky, and didn't learn about this the hard way, but trust me I had to be darned quick off the mark with the toilet lid when I cleaned it that time.

I also have double sided sticky tape handy - for when they find a new scratching post and choose to ignore the two large cat trees, two single scratch posts, and three cardboard scratch pads we provided for them.

The double sided did work initially, but I've now learnt Amber likes the taste of the glue stuff on anything from packing tape to sticky envelopes *sigh* and now she just tries to eat it.

You're gonna have lots of fun with this boy

Re: Any household tips for a new kitten slave..?

Watch out for doors that may shut on its own. Ari stole the cork we use to keep them ajar and locked herself in the bedroom (fortunately, we arrived from our weekend holiday a few hours later).

Wires can not be left unattended in our house. Particularly iPhone chargers and headphones!!
