May be getting him earlier! Travelling tips

Well it will mean driving 2 hrs over country roads in the dark and back again, BUT it means the little boy can be with us earlier so I am planning to go and get him a week on Tuesday!

As for a carrier for him I have 2 options, one is a smallish cat carrier but enough room for him, one is a large carrier which would be plenty big enough for even an large adult BSH. For his trip back do you think he would prefer as much space as possible, or would he feel safer in the smaller one? He will be 15 weeks and first time leaving mum and brother so want to do best for him. Will be putting in blanket and familiar toy. Any other tips for travelling 2 hrs with kitten? Maybe a good idea to not have heating on in car but put blanket over top of carrier to stop street lights flickering through... What do you think?

Put him in the smaller carrier, cover it with a blanket and have the heating on - he'll sleep most of the way if he's warm - if he gets cold he's more likely to whine and whinge. He's a 'big boy' at 15wks so will cope well hopefully. Good luck.

Re: May be getting him earlier! Travelling tips

When we collected our kitten [and had a similar length drive] we took a large carrier, but placed a disposable silver foil baking tray with cat litter in it, across the back of the carrier. We put a fleecey blanket in the front part. The tray was really handy and was used before we'd even got 5 miles from where we collected her. She then used it again just 40 mins from home. It certainly made the journey less stressful for both us and Nyx as she didn't have to lie on her business.

[oh and she's also a house cat that is harness trained and has a run off of our utility room window for access out side, but within the confines of the run]
