Younger male annoying/fighting older female
Any one have any tips on how to keep a younger cat from annoying an older female to the point of she's missing fur and has claw marks all down her body. Not sure if him humping all plush toys and blankets, maybe clothing too but haven't seen anything of him doing this. He doesn't do the humping in the same room as I'm in, always in a separate room out of my view. As soon as he's spotted doing it he takes off. Both are neutered and spayed with 4years apart in age. He's 4 and she's 8-9.

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
Never seen him trying to hump her, its always a him chasing after and a ball of flying fur when she stops. It is possible, but every time she stops he comes up and either pounces on her or flops over onto his back and pulls hers towards him.
The female was probably spayed around 6 months old and was about 4-5 when he was brought home. She was born in a rescue group and fostered before being adopted by my Husband. He was neutered about 7 months old and is now 4. I got him as a 3 week old kitten, still blue eyes and just getting his milk teeth in. I did keep him separated for the first month or 2 due to him being so young and not knowing his back ground as a stray. |

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
I've tried both plus a squirt bottle and neither have worked. As soon as you catch him he takes off during both behaviors. It used to be a small plush lion he did the humping to but I took it away due to him meowing all night long, along with 2 other toys. He's now started in on my daughters blankets and plush animals and the dog's blanket for her kennel.
I only noticed this has gotten worse since I started working again in September. Along with his unusual anti social behavior to wanting attention from me. He used to follow me around like a puppy up til this year. Last edited by onna2011; 18-11-2011 at 03:27 AM.. |

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
Maybe he is missing your company during the day. Have you tried a Feliway plug in for a few weeks to try to carm him down?

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
I haven't tried the plug ins yet. He would still harass the female even before I started working. The humping just seemed like it got worse lately and I don't work but twice a week if that.

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
I'm sorry, did you say he came to you at three weeks or was that a typo? He may have probs because of not growing up with his mum who shows kittens how to behave during their growth from birth up to 11+ weeks when they can leave her properly. This might be just a guess at where his actions are stemming from?
Feliway is a great thing to have in the house when cats are stressed, but I am against using water pistols as punishment... More experienced people will probably come along to advise better soon. ![]() Hope things work out for your little ones! |

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
He really did come to me at 3 weeks. I've still got a baby tooth he lost from then too. He was only allowed out after I made sure he was eating right and gaining weight. It was about 4-5 weeks after I got him before introducing him to the other cat. The squirt bottle is only used when it starts into a furry ball of mad kitties. I'm not risking my arms to break them up when it gets that bad.
At 4 years old, I'd figured he'd have been taught most of what's allowed and not by the older female. But then again she lets him get away with it and hides in our bedroom when she's had enough. Only thing that worries me is that it may affect the older cat in a negative way. I've looked into it but was also looking into something that could be given to him. Since most of the issues and stress start with him. |

Re: Younger male annoying/fighting older female
I've tried some treats that was suggested by someone in town that has the same issue with her cat with no luck with the humping but he's less aggressive with the other cat. I just remembered the same time all this started my daughter had just started potty training. Could her having a few accidents cause this behavior to pop up with him thinking that she's marking his territory?
