Hi everyone,

Oreo our cat is going under the knife today to be neutered. But what next?

We have a outdoor house being made at the moment and he has already been out in our garden once or twice.

What is next though?

How do we know when he is ready to roam around? He is nearly 6 months.

I have never let my cats out until they are over a year old... they never seem to roam far then....
Try and keep him in the outdoor house for as long as possible and don't feed him for a while and call him in doors when it's food time and he'll come running, that way you are training him to come when you call..

It works with my cats... my kitten is 18 weeks regardless where she is in the house I call her and shake the packet so she knows the sound...

I'm sure others will have more experience and share their advice..

Give him lots of love treats and cuddles tonight.

I have indoor cats so have no "first hand" knowledge of the outdoor side but I would wait until he is nearer 12 months old.Young kittens/cats are far to busy being kittens to be paying enough attentionn to the dangers outside.As the dark nights and winter are here I think it would be best to wait until next year ,maybe spring time,or just keep him as a house cat with an outside run then he can have the best of both worlds
