Question Yaawning

I know this is really random but we have noticed recently that when we say hello to Jaffe and give him a little stroke he always yawns in our face. Does this mean anything or is it just a quirk?

Mine are the same. Greet them with a hug or a cuddle and they will yawn... I always get the impression it is a sign of contentment and relaxation. Like they are saying: yeah, that's sooooo nice...

Re: Yaawning

Could it be because cats spend 75% of their day sleeping so whenever we interact with them we are cutting down on their precious sleep time.

It is just their way of reminding us that they love us enough to wake up for us

He does always give me that look as if to say "who dares disturb my slumber! Oh it's you.......what do you want "

Yes, that lovely stretch...
reaching out their loving paws to us......

This thread makes me realize a few of the many, many reasons why I love cats so much.

I am doing a training to make less of negative experiences and concentrate on positive ones, and recalling the positives when irritation or depression threatens to set in. We had to describe what memory could switch on the positive vibes for us, and for me that was.........

Gaudi snuggling up to me
Josje finding a warm spot in the middle of our bed, touching both of us
Ricky pondering on his third, secret, effable ineffable effabblyineffable name
Catweazle greating me when I come home
Xena suckling my shirt
Tosca coming up to me when I am sitting at the pc and clawing into my leg to demand a cuddle
Wobbel talking to me with his birdlike chirping voice
the memory of my rainbow cat Jiskefet looking at me with these adoring eyes
the memory of my rainbow cat Spetter sleeping with his bum against my ear and his head on my throat
the memory of my rainbow cat Steffie nursing me when I was ill
etc
etc
etc

What beauty does life hold for people that don't have cats, I wonder.....

I did something similar to this a few years back when I was catless and one of the things that I would think about was when I still lived at home and my little Oscar would come for a cuddle when I was sad and let me cry all over him even though he really hated getting wet. It always cheered me up.

Re: Yaawning

My gorgeous cat Tabby used to rub and kiss my nose over and over again, and sometimes he would need to stop for a yawn. I usually stepped back at this point, because his breath was smelly (it was before he had his teeth out at the age of 11!!) - but he soon learned to stop me, by stretching a fluffy 'arm' over my shoulder at the same moment as the yawn, and then clinging to the back of my neck, so I wouldn't move away!!!!!!!
