The distressed kind of meow is very insistent! Its not the sort of meow you can ignore. Its definately a kind of primal meow.

Another thing I noticed (slight change of topic) is that cats can count! I remember when I lived with my sis and her cat had kittens and I held one and the mum cat came into the room and honest to God she did a head count and realized one was missing and did that distressed meow. I placed the kitten back on the floor and she did that cheerful chirrup and picked up her baby and walked off.
