Icarus is sad...

We introduced Mildred to our Icco a few days back. Right from the start it was clear who was going to be the boss. Mil won't let Icarus anywhere near him, but he follows her around all the time trying to get her to play!

What concerns me is that Icarus seems to be suffering as a result. He won't play with us, he doesn't come for cuddles, on the rare occasion that he lets us pet him he's always looking around nervously and he doesn't purr at all. For a cat that used to be affectionate to the extreme this is a pretty big change.

Will he be okay? Will the two of them work it out? How long will it take? Mildred is an amazing cat who we're already very fond of but our boy has to be out top priority. I am worried. We've never done the whole cat introduction thing before so I might be fretting over nothing, but would far rather have some input from you fine people please!

The Story So Far:
Spock (2010-2011), who began our love affair with kitties but whose grasp on the green cross code was sadly lacking.
Icarus (2011-...?), who loves noses more than anything else.
Mildred (2010-...?), who sings to the birds.

The twisted brainwrong of a one-off man mental.

Re: Icarus is sad...

I really wouldn't worry too much I experienced exactly the same thing and I've read loads of other posts with the same fears

In my own case it all settled down in a few weeks and my original cat went back to his loving, affectionate self with me, the only thing that hasn't changed back is he doesn't play with toys as much but maybe that is down to the fact that they have each other to play with?

Re: Icarus is sad...

Exactly the same here.

Willow doesnt play so much with the toys as she used to, but the three of them spend so much time chasing around and ambushing each other they dont have the time or the energy!

Willow ignored me totally for about a week, but is slowly getting back to normal with the cuddles and purring - they just sulk for a while I think, but soon come round

Re: Icarus is sad...

I'm getting the exact same from Oscar, won't play with his toys, won't lay with me, doesn't come for morning cuddles he was soooo loving too! He did come to me this morning though, just for a second but it's a start! He loved his toys too but I'm thinking he is that worn out after playing run around with Rosie! They have been playing/ fighting again this morning, because I know Oscar I know he is playing and loves her but I'm not too sure if she is playing or not!?
I'm hoping and praying things will be ok because like you we are very fond of Rosie already but Oscar has to come first

Re: Icarus is sad...

I still sometimes whisper in Mika's ear 'You're still my favourite, best boy you know' when Rosso isn't in ear shot, just to reassure him!
babygirls and MCWillow like this.
