Re: seasons

We had nutmeg neutured when she was a kitten, I think around six months old and she never called before then, so I cant help there, but I think they can call at about 6 months, it could even be younger.

Re: seasons

on AVERAGE they call at around 9 months - some can call as young as 4 months and others as late as 2 years. They will mainly be very noisy, literally calling for a mate, they will crouch on the ground with head down and bum in the air, hair curved over to one side, and paddle with their feet. They can become very loving and roll around on the floor in a loved up fashion, they may also start scent marking to attract a male.

Minnii called for the first time at 9 months and then not again until 14 months. Once they get into calling it tends to last about a week and happens every 3 weeks.

Re: seasons

I can't answer your question, but had a question along the same lines.

Does a cat go into call around the same age as her Mum first did?
(similar to girls who might get their first period late/early like their Mums)

Or is each cat different and you can't really judge when a first call might be by knowing the first call age of her Mum?

Re: seasons

It's a very individual thing. I reckon there can be an inherited component but I've found the time of year they're born can also be a factor. Mind you, the accepted idea that cats don't call through the winter has never been a factor in my house. Mine tend to have a 'down' period through late summer/autumn and are back in full voice throughout the winter.
