Newbie needs advice

Hi there,

I actually tried to post a message on Tuesday night, but I got a message back saying my post would need to be approved by a moderator and I have heard nothing since...

We have 1 cat, a lovely, pamperered, fluffy 2 year old. On Tuesday evening, a tiny skinny stray landed on our doorstep and we took him in, thats what i was posting for help with.

We have had him to the vets - no chip, not neutered, aged 12 - 18 months, has probobly been abandoned by irresponsible owner, as used to people and household noises but very skinny, and upset tum bue to feasting and fasting for weeks.

We have had him tested for FeLV, FIV etc and all negative. He is getting on well but our lovely cat is quite unhappy and stressed out.

He is not being overly aggressive to the kitten, but follows him everywhere and is swiping and (if swiping doesnt work) biting, but no caterwauling, no bushy tail...still, I reckon the little cat must be getting a bit intimidated by now.

Our cat is not his usual self, either. He is ok-ish if the cat is in the other room but if the litte-un is about, our cat wont play or be stroked, runs away from me, and has stopped doing all the funny little things he used to do.

One thing that has really upset me is that he has stopped carrying his "baby" around. His baby is an old chaser that he is really attached to, and every night when OH and I go to bed, ten minutes later our cat appears upstairs, carrying the chaser round in his mouth , mewing and kneading, and he puts the chaser in bed with us, in his food bowl or in other cute safe places. We think he does this when he feels happy and contented, and since the little cat appeared, our cat has not touched or looked at his baby, indicating he feels far from contented!

They are "ok-ish" with each other but i think our cat is sad and the little cat is scared. I just want them to be ok.

I am also having a problem as the little cat is using our cats litter tray (he has his own in the kitchen but sneaks in to our cats) and also the little cat keeps going for our cats food, which is making it worse.

I am trying to keep little cat in the kitch mostly, and our cat has the rest of the house, and then just let them mix for an hour a day.

Is there anything I should be doing differently, I am feeling very emotional that i have upset my poor cat :-(

Mods, please post this message, i need help and advice from these forums, thank you xxx
