Question Anxious Owner!

Hi all - I'm new to forum. I have just acquired a 4 month year old domestic shorthair cat, grey and white, a beautiful little boy. He came from a ferral pregnant cat and was brought up with 3 dogs, other cats and had NO vaccinations. He had sneezes, I took him to vets in a panic she said he has a dose of cat flu probably and gave me some medicine and he had an injection. He is happy, playful, eating and drinking and sleeping and playing. He will be an indoor cat. I am just panicking because I keep googling all the different types of cat diseases and think "oh god, he's going to die". I was sweating and panicking in the vets, the vet wasn't very reassuring and told me to administer the medicine and come back in a week to give him his first vaccination. My dad told me off for being in a panic (I am nearing 40 - don't laugh!) - they are helping with the vets bills. Maybe I am panicking more about having to pay them back?? lol. Anyway, just come on here to write down my anxieties - is it normal to get this anxious about a cat?? I grew up with animals, I have no children but suddenly acquiring this little ball of adorable fluff has brought me out in a panic!! Any advice, similar experiencees welcome. I do find it quite ironic that I was so worried about the kitten being nervous, but he is fine and I am the nervous wreck!!

Re: Anxious Owner!

Hi and welcome! Well, I'd say perfectly normal, but that's me The times I've hyperventilated, been in tears, babbled incoherently at the vet's over the cats is quite shameful No kids, either, but over 40...

About the cat flu, try not to worry. He's not tiny, tiny, so should be strong enough to shake it off. Keep him warm, well hydrated and well fed, and along with his lovely medicine, he should be fine

Re: Anxious Owner!

Hi and WELCOME. You are in the right place thats for sure.

Anxious yes its a given with Pet ownership. I border on neurotic!!! I am terrible when they are ill!!!!

I am also nearly 40 and worry more about the kittens than my adult kids!! (they can tell me whats wrong)

What is bad is googling DO NOT DO IT EVER!!!

That is really bad for people like us it it causes ANXIETY

Posting on here is much better for you

Re: Anxious Owner!

I was adopted by a kitten who is nearly 5 months old now I don`t think I have worried so much in my life so what you are going through seems perfectly normal I am so glad I found PetForums though , it helps .

Despite what you may be advised here, DON`T go on zooplus , one solitary visit there and you will be hooked and many many £££`s poorer lol

Firstly welcome to the forum you will get a wealth of information and help here if your vet has told you to go back for inoculations she must be confident he will be fine but if you are in unsure that he is fit enough for his inoculations then I would double check with your vet and he/she will advise you as for worrying I am 57 and I worry like crazy about mine they only have to sneeze and they are down the vet I think all will be fine keep us updated please

Re: Anxious Owner!

Hi and welcome to the sanctuary for the neurotic pet slaves. It is in the job description to be a complete mess at the very thought of a sniffle or upset tum and age ,or the lack of it makes no difference.Google bad ,pet forum good .As already said your furbaby is not tiny so should be fine, just, lots of TLC and his treatment for "possible" flu and he will be firing on all cylinders soon.

Re: Anxious Owner!

Hello and welcome!!! The others have it down to a tea. All a bit neurotic and anxious about our precious fur babies on here so you are not alone. When I first got Jaffe I barely slept for 3 days because I was constantly worrying about him. He then has a fall off his perch and was limping and I was an absolute mess because he had hurt himself and was thinking I was such an awful owner and the vet is going to think i'm careless et etc. The vet just laughed and reassured me that he was fine and that it was not my fault because at the end of the day kittens will be kittens and will climb and jump and fall! I did feel a lot better but I still have little panics about everything!!!

It sounds like some tlc and your little one will be right as rain. If you ever are worried about small things there is always someone on here who can help or calm you down and make you feel better if you're worried so you have come to the right place

Re: Anxious Owner!

Hi and welcome - you have come to the right place

As said before we are all crazy cat people (other people put it in more polite terms but its the truth )

Poor Holly has been put in the pyrex roasting dish on the scales more times than I've had hot dinners lately - because I never seem to see her eat - but she is gaining weight fine - she is being to sneaky to freak me out I am sure of it!!

So, no, there are no neurotic people on here

Edited to say I am sure he will be absolutely fine - but you have broken the first forum rule by not posting any pics of your baby
