Re: Anxious Owner!

You are a new mum so have every right to be anxious. However many kittens/cats get the sneezes and it is not always cat flu. It may just be a mild upper respiratory infection. I agree with vivien the vet must be confident it he/she mentioned getting the vaccinations started next time. Even if cat flu it is still treatable in the vast percentage of cases so again don't be too worried. Key thing is to try and keep him eating as cats appetite is driven mainly by smell and if his nose is blocked he may be not be smelling the food so well. A trick here is to warm the food very gently ( 10 -15 secs in the microwave) nb this does not work for dry foods!

Re: Anxious Owner!

I go into a panic when Scamp is ill, maybe it's because my previous cats were both sick at the end, one had stomach cancer, the other tore his diaphragm and they found the start of liver cancer whilst doing the emergency op, so that's probably why I'm like I am. Scamp is 16 now and that plays on my mind a lot, he is the longest surviving cat I have had There's nothing wrong with worrying about your baby, it's a given as a pet owner I too am over 40 with two grown lads and they tell me to stop fussing and let him be himself, they have the cheek to say I spoil him, as if But welcome to the forum, we are all here to reassure one another and share experiences, but please don't look up things it will make you paranoid and scare you

Re: Anxious Owner!

Thank you all SO much for reassuring me - thank goodness I have found some similar experiences - I thought I was losing my mind! I had a bereavement of a human (!) friend a few years back and was very affected by it. I think I need to learn to relax more or it will be me needing the emergency check up! lol! Might have some fun taking more pictures of him now - my Facebook page is full of him already! Funny how a little ball of fluff can turn your life topsy turvy overnight! He's going to join me in the bathroom now as the vet said the steam will be good for him. My husband has also become more demanding since the kitten arrival - ha ha - I think he feel left out!! When he says he's got flu I ignore him and tell him to get over it, one sniffle from the kitten and I'm down the vets hyperventilating and stocking up the medicine cabinet with 50 quids worth of cat meds. LOL!

Hi all - I'm new to forum. I have just acquired a 4 month year old domestic shorthair cat, grey and white, a beautiful little boy. He came from a ferral pregnant cat and was brought up with 3 dogs, other cats and had NO vaccinations. He had sneezes, I took him to vets in a panic she said he has a dose of cat flu probably and gave me some medicine and he had an injection. He is happy, playful, eating and drinking and sleeping and playing. He will be an indoor cat. I am just panicking because I keep googling all the different types of cat diseases and think "oh god, he's going to die". I was sweating and panicking in the vets, the vet wasn't very reassuring and told me to administer the medicine and come back in a week to give him his first vaccination. My dad told me off for being in a panic (I am nearing 40 - don't laugh!) - they are helping with the vets bills. Maybe I am panicking more about having to pay them back?? lol. Anyway, just come on here to write down my anxieties - is it normal to get this anxious about a cat?? I grew up with animals, I have no children but suddenly acquiring this little ball of adorable fluff has brought me out in a panic!! Any advice, similar experiencees welcome. I do find it quite ironic that I was so worried about the kitten being nervous, but he is fine and I am the nervous wreck!!
dont worry!!!!!!!
i am sort of like that, when leo started sneezing and had watery eyes, i thought CAT FLU! AHHHHHHH! IVE HAD HIM FOR 4 DAYS AND HE HAS CAT FLU!
but he is fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!
and he wil be fine- my friend got her kitten at 6 weeks, who had cat flu and she got through it fine!
