Re: spraying

Anytime really from 6 months old onwards - basically when they hit sexual maturity. Castration will deffinitly help and reduce the strength of the smell and the urge to spray on everything, but cats both male and female wether neutered or not will spary to mark their terratory.

Re: spraying

Usually anytime after 6 mths although some cats can mature before that. Having them done definitely stops them spraying.

Little boys are also extremely affectionate as a rule. I have 3 boys and they are all soooooo loving & sweet. Well, with me although not always with each other!!!!

Re: spraying

Do ALL cats spray if they havent been Castrated?

My boy is a complete indoor cat (5 months at the moment) but i think he's going to gow into a stunner so not sure whether to have this done or not, although i really dont want spraying everywhere

NONE of my boys have ever sprayed indoors. EVER!!!!

I have seen them doing it outside though where other cats have come through the garden.

is that because they spray outside that they dont indoors though?

my boy being totally indoors, im guessing theres a much greater chance of him spraying indoors

Why would the fact you think he is going to grow into a stunner mean you don't know whether to get him castrated or not?

Only if you intend to let lots of other cats go through your house who don't actually live there......

Cats spray to mark their territory. That is why, when someone comes on here and says that their cat has started spraying or weeing indoors, the first question asked is "Could another cat have gotten into the house?"

My boys spray outside to cover the scent put down by OTHER cats outside.

Re: spraying

Un neutered boys are NOT pets, I have a un-neutered boy as he is my stud boy, he is no longer a pet, he has no interest in humans, he only wants to mate, he sprays he wees he craps and he screams and he fights, thats a un-neutered boys life Im afraid and he was kept indoors until around 15-16months of age, it doesnt matter if they are fully indoors once they his the sexually maturity thats it, we put up with it as I dont like them living outside, but sadly in the end we have to give in. He wont be a stud for much longer as I dont think its much of a life for them.

They can start spraying from 4 months, its best to get them neutered ASAP, once they mate though thats it they want it all the time, so the 'just one litter' makes it worse, imagine only being allowed to have sex once in your life? or never but keeping all your bits?

early neuter from 3 months plus is ideal its quicker they recover within hours and it keeps them healthier.

Someone wrote here about a boy turning into a stunner, unless he is a fully health tested registered cat then please neuter him, dont need no more crosses or moglets produced

hope this helps, from the side of a un-neutered boy owner.

Oh and ive never met a neutered boy (when done at 3-6months of age) thats sprays ever! IVe only heard of people neutered after 10months then dumping them in rescue as they wont stop spraying. prevention is better!!

I think that should be interpreted Kaz into "I think he's going to be a good looking cat and then I can breed from him......."
