Strange positioning

As you probably know I've been having problems with Spencer peeing. He was given antibiotics which seemed to help and he stopped for a whole week after finishing them. He then started again during the week.

He seems to be fine in himself although maybe a little quiet/not so cuddly sometimes. I've checked the skin on the back of his neck and it goes back straight away so don't think he's dehydrated. He is fed solely wet too.

However, today I have noticed he doesn't seem to sit down normally and will either lie down wherever he is or sit like this

Does anyone know why he might do this and if it may be a connection to why he is peeing on the floor? Or is it just one of those things? I just thought it was strange as it is noticable he is doing it more today. He does it wherever he is if he can't lie down - worktops, arms of chairs, floor.

Also, earlier I picked him up and put my arm under his back end to support him and he really meowed and tried to get away from me like he was in pain? He also just went and peed behind the tv then came up onto my knee and meowed at me? This was after I had cleaned it up so not straight after he peed so maybe he was trying to say sorry? His pee smells like tuna, not sure if that is normal or not?

I will be phoning the vets first thing after I have taken Skye to get her stitches out tomorrow but just wondering if these things are pointing more towards an infection or something and not behavioural? Or maybe they are totally unrelated and I'm just over worrying

Re: Strange positioning

It sounds like something is hurting him down there, although I'm no expert. Can you just take him to the vet when you take Skye in and have them look at him? And tuna scented pee--I've never smelled anything like that, so that really seems like something must be wrong with the poor little fellow.

Hopefully Ianthi will be along or someone else who actually knows about these things.

Re: Strange positioning

Thanks dagny, that's what I thought. I'm taking him to a different vet as my current one keeps telling me to let him outside and that will sort it out Will be on the phone to them as soon as I get back with Skye, or may even take a drive round there once I've taken Skye and go in and speak to them as it's in the same town.

Re: Strange positioning

Ah, I see. Yeah, I'd pick a new vet too if I were you. I do remember your saying that was his great advice, as if peeing in the garden instead of on litter matters. So many stupid vets out there, it's kind of scary!

Re: Strange positioning

Fingers crossed it's just a matter of a different anti-biotic that will set him straight and that you get an appointment for him tomorrow so he doesn't have to feel poorly any longer (and you stop having all these stinky messes to clean up!)

Re: Strange positioning

Not that up on cats as you can probably guess, but just from a general medical point of view be it cats dogs for humans, I would say that if the urine has an odd smell then something might well be amiss, possibly some type of infection. frequent urinating and accidents are usually another sign of a urinary tract infection too. Sometimes certain types of bacterial infection needs certain antibiotics so that may explain why it seemed to be under control and has re-occured. Just wondering if he has a "foreign body" lodged in the tract like a grass seed. There was a dog a few weeks back who had a vaginal/uterine infection caused by as grass side, so possible perhaps.

Thanks, will definitely mention at vets. My current one didn't even ask to see him and didn't ask for urine sample, I just took it in as knew something must be wrong.
