How many cat litter trays to you have?

OK me and my OH have been having a "discussion" about litter trays and he thinks I am confusing the cats by having several ie 3 around the house. We have one in the conservatory, one in the kitchen and one upstairs in the bathroom and he thinks that we should have one and one only so they associate that one with where the toilet is if that makes sense.

Thing is we have had new carpets this Spring and I'm really worried that in the middle of the night and the kittens are on our bed they might not be able to make it to the litter tray that's why I have one in the bathroon. OH will be the first to complain if there is wee or poo accidents on the landing or stairs

What do you do? Do you have just one or several like I do? Is OH right about me confusing the cats?

Re: How many cat litter trays to you have?

we have 4 (one for each cat) they only really use two of them though, well 3 of the cats use one of the trays and one cat uses her own (shes special )

Re: How many cat litter trays to you have?

I have 3 for my 2 cats 2 downstairs next to each other and one upstairs in my bedroom. I also have one in the fosters cage obviously. The main rule of thumb is one litter tray each plus one. This is suggested by more pet behaviourists to try and stop the inappropriate toileting in the house as cats can be so fussy with where they go and not go somewhere if another cat has already been. Tell ur OH that it is what is recommended by the experts and to shush lol

Re: How many cat litter trays to you have?

4 here,

1 in my bedroom that's not been used since the much missed Beckett was a kitten, but if I ever do move it................

1 on the landing, I in the hall and 1 in the living room.

The only one which gets semi-regular use is the 1 in the hall so I could probably do without the other 2, but like the 1 in my bedroom, if I ever move them...............

Ian

Re: How many cat litter trays to you have?

Currently I have five in use but once the kittens are gone it will be down to two again. The girls don't mind sharing but I like to have a couple of options - one open and one enclosed.

Re: How many cat litter trays to you have?

We've got 3. Misi pees a lot with her kidney probs, and Simba's a bit fussy to go when she's been, and sometimes goes where he's not meant to, so he has a secret one that Misi didn't know about until yesterday. I don't think she uses it though...

Re: How many cat litter trays to you have?

1. But it's a Litter Robot, so is always clean. THe only problem we're having with it not getting used is what I think must be scent marking in our basement--the previous folks let their cats use the whole basement as a litter box, apparently, so I've just done what I hope is the last super cleaning down there.
