Flea Treatment

Hi everyone,

I'm am not happy this is the second times i've treated my baby Samson with Frontline flea treatment but he is still infested with fleas I just cannot bare it I feel I am neglecting him. My other cat of 20 years never had any flea only once he picked fleas when we went to Blackpool on holiday but two treatment of Frontline all his fleas disappear but with Samson nothing seems to happens.

I notice the Frontline i've used 16 years ago was more different to this one the smells was more stronger and it was like a oil solution this Frontline barely smells of anything and it's more like water based why do everything have to change for the worst.

Sorry to moan but can anyone recommend a better flea treatment other than frontline.

Many thanks

Re: Flea Treatment

Hi yes there are a couple of very good flea treatments one is stronghold and the other advocate I use advocate it is a wormer and also does lungworms, stronghold does worms also and they both guard against ear mites too it is really down to what your vet thinks is the better option but since useing both these treatments I can recommend both as I have not had a flea problem in years now. I hope this was helpfull

Thanks ever so much Viv appreciate it. I bought Frontline just 3 pipettes pack from my vet she charges me almost 40.00 pounds but I can see they only cost around between 10.00 or 12.00 pounds for 3 pipettes so I won't be buying any flea treatment from her.

I am confused about advocate are you saying it is both for treating flea and worms at the same times? I will check both brand my kitten is due for worm treatment i've have not been eager to take him to my vet she is a new vet as I've lost a little confidence in her with problems I've had with my two other cats both has since passed away this year one was 20 years old and the other a kitten of 5 months old.

My kitten is an indoor cat so worming regular might not be necessary as my old cat was hardly ever treated for worm and never had any problems.

Anyway I'll check both brands and see what I can find.

Re: Flea Treatment

Yes both strong hold and advocate do worms fleas and ear mites but advocate does lungworms too you can only get them from the vet though. OMG £40 for frontline your vet it well expensive I only pay £28 for 3 pipettes of advocate and if I buy. A years supply I get 25% off with 3 cats I usually go for the year supply

Thanks Viv I might go for the advocate. No my vet is very cheap surprisingly she never charge for consultations she only charge for any medications she's even charged me just 5.00 pounds once time with the other new kitten I don't know I'm still a bit unsure about her I see how I feel but I daren't buy the advocate from her.

Xxx

Re: Flea Treatment

Just adding my tuppence worth.....

I SWEAR by Advocate simply for the effectiveness of its flea repelling!! The worming is an added bonus as far as I am concerned.

I had my cat McGee at the vet this moring to get flea treatment. I got him from a rescue 4 weeks ago & they Frontlined him before we left. The poor wee soul has been scratching like billy-o since he came home. I didn't want to put more chemicals on him too soon so had to wait the four weeks till he was ready to be done again. He was Advocated at the vet at 10.15 this morning. Since then he has barely scratched at all.

Also, Advocate treats the environment the cats frequent so no need to spray your home either. I haven't had to spray all summer and THAT is a first!!!

Re: Flea Treatment

I've had to buy flea treatment today for the first time in 1.5 years and I was certain (although in that amount of time admittedly, they could have changed brands) that my Vet's used something different to Frontline. Today however, they gave me a choice between Frontline Combo (which I believe is prescription only?) or Effipro which was cheaper. She said the Frontline was 'excellent' but obviously I was aware that people have said Frontline no longer works, so begrudgingly took it. After all, why would I want something that worked worse than that?

The question is, when people talk about Frontline not working, is that the normal Frontline you can get anywhere, or both, including this Frontline Combo aswell?

Re: Flea Treatment

I believe that Frontline Combo is getting some 'better press' than the other cheaper version of Frontline.

I am, however, so impressed with Advocate, that I'll be sticking with it for some time to come.

Re: Flea Treatment

I was a little shocked to be honest that Vet's still sell Frontline after what I'd heard, I thought everyone was selling either Advocate or Stronghold these days and my Vet's don't seem the type to be stuck in the past.. Was a bit disappointed if I'm honest but I should probably reserve judgement until I've actually used the stuff
