Where else would it be though? If you're trying to teach the dog to stay away from the litter tray, then putting doctored poo elsewhere is only going to teach it to not eat poo that isn't in the litter tray. Association is usually the key, and if the poo isn't in the tray, then litter tray avoidance won't be associated with a nasty experience with doctored poo elsewhere.
