Ideas please

Ok, so Spencer has started peeing again He stopped for a whole week last week then started again on Sunday. Can't get him to the vets til next week but still have some ABs I can try him with in the meantime. I'm just so confused about what it could be as he can go so long without doing it?

He's now also taken to peeing on Benny's munch mat and even managed to pee inside a high sided bowl I have under the sink as it leaks sometimes

Well, I've been under the kitchen cupboards tonight and had a really good clean with biological powder solution. However, there is one corner that has no laminate flooring as the pipes from the dishwasher stick out so it is just floorboards and that's where he pees most. I tried cleaning it but it's so hard with it being just floorboards as they are those sort of big square ones that liquid seems to sort of soak into? I put some lemon juice on that spot in the hope it will help neutralise the smell but can anyone give me any ideas of how I can block that corner off? I used a piece of cardboard before but Spencer just pulled it out when I wasn't here?

Here's a picture, hope you can see what I mean about the pipes etc.

Re: Ideas please

What about shoving an open topped litter tray under that cupboard ??

When the vet dips the urine what is he finding?? White blood cells and/or blood?? If it is just blood it could be cystitis which can be a so and so to get rid of!! What about getting some special food for urinary problems?? I know you feed a really good diet but maybe little Spencer needs something to 'pander' to his bladder for the time being?!

With litter in it? Not sure if there's enough room for him to get in it to pee? Also it wouldn't go on top of the pipes?

It was white blood cells last time, but I'm taking him to other vets on tuesday hopefully. I'm hoping it's just the smell that is making him go back to that spot but it doesn't explain peeing on Benny's mat

Re: Ideas please

Yeah with litter in it to weight it down as that should stop him being able to get there but also if he does manage he can wee on the litter.

Right WBC deffo show infection... maybe if they dip urine again and it shows more WBC they should send it away to culture it... maybe its not responding fully to the type of antibiotics they are giving him??

All I can suggest is something that really worked for me when Bugs was weeing on my bed and under it..... I bought pet behave spray from Wilkinsons and sprayed it liberally over my bed and under (almost died from the fumes of citronella lol) it STINKS and most cats dont like the smell!! (some cats do and are attracted but honestly this one is VERY strong!!)

No I know it must be so upsetting to not know why he is doing it and so fustrating that you cant get him over it.

You have them insured dont you?? Does your insurance cover behavioural problems?? Maybe if this time his urine is clear then ask for a referral to a pet behaviourist.

I'm not sure tbh will have a look though.

I'm hoping the new vets will look into it further instead of telling me to let him outside

Re: Ideas please

In my old house i had a hole under a cupboard i had to block off, sounds silly but was all i could think of when i first had Miley cos she kept trying to get into the hole as a kitten and i was scared. Anyways, I had a few of those "really useful boxes", you know the clear plastic ones with the clips at the sides? ... i had craft bits and mags in mine and i just stacked them up on top of one another and to the side of the hole ... didnt look "that" bad either, pretty efficient storage lol. Or can you get some thinish wood and nail it around the part you dont want him getting into to block it off? so itd be like a wall around it that has only a smallish gap that he cant fit into?

Re: Ideas please

I've been reading Vicky Hall's books lately and there's a ton of info about behavioural soiling including that which starts as a physical problem but they then carry on even when their illness has improved.

There's a few cheap 2nd hand copies on evil bay:

Cat Confidential: The Book Your Cat Wou..., Vicky Halls | eBay

Cat Detective, Vicky Halls | eBay

Cat Counsellor: How Your Cat Really Relates to You Vick | eBay

She is a bit down on "multi cat households (she says two is multi-cat!) and indoor cats but she does have some excellent ideas and seems to have had great success treating this sort of problem.
