Cat litter question... sorry :o

Now I know a lot of you use Oko plus litter I am seriously thinking of changing my litter to this as my current one has gone downhill and is no longer containing smells efficently.

I have a few questions though, is Oko dusty?? My current litter has become more dusty recently and is really affecting my chest

Also my older cat is a right fussy madame and doesnt like going to the toilet on top of smells so I currently have to top up regularly, will the oko being a clumping litter be better for her or will I still have a fussy so and so with her litter?? lol

Is there anything else I should know about the oko plus and downside?? I know alot of you mention the tracking how bad is this? 2 out of 3 of my trays are covered with a flap so will this cut down the tracking?

Re: Cat litter question... sorry :o

Oko gets dusty after a few weeks - but it isn't dusty as in getting into the air - just at the bottom of the tray - and it's a wood based dust. It's brilliant at hiding smells and being clumping is really easy to clean out. I don't find the tracking that bad and I have covered trays without the flap but I also use tracker mates.

Re: Cat litter question... sorry :o

I honestly think the best thing I can suggest is buying a small bag (10litre) from from P@H or the like and give it a whirl in one of your trays. If you use it along side what you're using now you will notice the differences more.

I would not use anything other than Oko now, unless someone were to invent another litter which is cheaper than Oko, but works in the same way

Nature Gold is exactly the same litter as OKO, made by the same people etc. It's a little more expensive, but it's in pellets, so it doesn't track nearly as badly, and is much less dusty. I don't know why people still use Oko when Nature Gold is the same with none of its problems!

Re: Cat litter question... sorry :o

Carly- I recently tried nature gold and didn't rate it at all. Yes it doesn't track but the clumps are twice the size meaning more litter is used and I found the clumps fell apart as a sifted them out meaning damp bits of litter going back into the tray. it only lasted about 10 days before I decided to bin it and go back to oko.

Re: Cat litter question... sorry :o

I tried Oko after reading posts on here
Was VERY sceptical but now am totally converted

We have 3 cats (2 aged 15 and 1 aged 6 )and 2 covered litter trays with doors removed

There is virtually no smell ,its so easy to keep clean (the wees clump into a sort of gel ball-easily disposed of) and I have not had to totally change the litter for a few months now, whereas before it was several times a week.
Although it is initially more expensive than the one we were using we have saved money in the long run
Its also very lightweight
Its great to come into the house and not get that smell-we have one very smelly cat who is being treated for ongoing stomach problems and even he cant make the litter smell like he used to

I admit it does track quite a bit and can be dusty-but as someone else posted-the dust doesnt get into the air

I would advise you to just give it a go
Maureen

If the cat won't use the litter tray when you've changed your brand, a good trick is to climb in it yourself & do your business & cover it up.....make sure the cat sees you obviously.

The very same thought went through my head Jenny!!!!!!

To KFM - I have just changed over from OKO Plus to Natures Gold because the tracking was doing my head in!!!! Everything else about it was brilliant and it was ONLY the tracking that let it done in our household. Despite having mats down outside the trays, it still tracked ALL through the house. I do, however, have three long'ish haired cats so that won't have helped.

Cats Best Natures Gold is bigger pellets but has NO dust at all and the tracking practically stops on the mats.

The clumps are bigger but I just break them up in the loo before flushing. I agree with Ally-kats in that you probably will use more of it but, given how much OKO tracked through Moggy Towers, I reckon it balances out!!!

I was over the moon tonight when I came home from work and STILL had nice clean carpets & floors!!!!

Re: Cat litter question... sorry :o

Ooooooh I don't know what to do now - I love Oko from a cleaning up/smells etc POV and don't find it dusty or anything but the tracking is doing my nut in. I was hoping to get a Modkat this week to prevent downstairs tracking but my car failed it's MOT today (£237 ) so the Modkat has to wait for another month

Perhaps I need to try Nature's Gold
