Leaving cat's alone.

What do you tend to do if you need to leave the cat's alone for the night and don't have anyone to watch them..?

She needs to be more specific I think hun - like, is she going away am of day 1 and coming back pm of day 2. Or is she going out late pm of day 1 and coming back early am of day 2?

Has she looked at automatic feeders?

Re: Leaving cat's alone.

I wouldn't to be honest, if no friends or family could help out I would have the petsitter go in to check up on them.

Re: Leaving cat's alone.

I would say unless they can get automatic feeders or a petsitter I wouldn't go. That might just be me though.

Re: Leaving cat's alone.

It really depends on what times she is going out at and coming back at.

For example - in my younger days when I used to actually have a life and go out, I would feed the cats at 9pm just before I left the house. I would then crash at a mates place but would always be home no later than 10am to feed them again. This meant they only went 3hrs max longer than usual and I would always put extra out to cover that bit of time.

If I was, however, going out at 8am and not returming until 8pm the next day, I would most definitely be making arrangements for someone to go in.

Re: Leaving cat's alone.

If we have to leave ours overnight we use an automatic feeder. For example, this weekend we were away from about 4pm on Saturday until 4pm on Sunday. I fed them before I left (which was early, they were very chuffed) and made sure I gave them a bit more than normal. I also set up the automatic feeder to open about their normal breakfast time and again left them a bit extra. I'm not sure why I feel the need to give them more, think it's just the thought that there is no-one to ask for food if they are hungry! If we have to be away longer (say Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon) I would use another feeder to cover the Saturday evening feed. I would quite possibly also leave them a bit of dry food just in a bowl - they don't often get it but I do worry about the idea that one of the feeders might not work for some reason.

Re: Leaving cat's alone.

We go away to visit family fairly regularly, usually leaving Saturday am & getting back Sunday pm, we just leave some food out & the cats get on with it. To be fair I only give them 1 meal a day anyways, so they are not missing out, & they have a cat flap to let themselves in & out. If we go away any longer than that I get someone to come in & check & feed them
