Can I use cornflour on Wilbur?

OK, I am not cooking him, but I think he got cooking oil on him which has made a greasy patch on his fur. I have tried wiping him down and patting him with kitchen paper, which made it better but hasn't gone completely.

Reading on Google people have used corn starch (which I assume is cornflour in the UK) to absorb the oil and then brushed it off. Do you think this would be OK/safe to do?

I was calling him 'Snape' this morning and I think he understood I was making fun of him and gave me a loud Meeoooooowwww and skulked off. Oh dear, teenagers eh?!

Re: Can I use cornflour on Wilbur?

I dont see why not. Even if he ingests some it shouldnt do any harm. Go for it The only other suggestion I have it to give him a little bath with washing up liquid as this breaks down the grease but will be more stressful for him (I have had to bath Chewitts quite often with washing up liquid as she gets anti climb paint on her at times from her wanderings (one more reason I dont let her out much) and it is the only thing that removes it as its grease based
Lumboo and Bonnie82 like this.

Re: Can I use cornflour on Wilbur?

Thanks for the tip If the cornflour doesn't do the trick I will use Fairy.

As it is 'Crisp n Dry' I am trying to get out of his fur, I thought it fitting to use batter powder - kind of making tempura in reverse.

A good way to get rid of oil is brown paper and a hot iron but I fear that this approach may not put you in Wilburs good books...........

Re: Can I use cornflour on Wilbur?

talc/corn flour/rice flour - any dry powder really - rub in then brush out

he may appear to have dandruff for a bit though

baby shampoo or proper pet shampoo would also shift it but trim claws before bathing

I still use Baby shampoo on my son, but it has lavender in it, (aids sleep apparently but my son can't read properly so it doesn't work! )

I won't be able to use that one will I? Thought I read cats don't like Lavender....
