cat proof garden

I have 2 beautiful siamese/devon rex cross 18 month old boys. Freddie was hit by a car on friday and is still at the vets and we are unsure of the outcome: I have kept the other one indoors and he is going mad!!
I want to add something to the top of my 6ft enclosed garden to stop them going on the roads. Has any one else done this? I once knew someone who had thick tubes all round the top of the fence so the cats couldnt get a grip, and have seen netting added.

Re: cat proof garden

A lot of people have cat proofed their gardens so I am sure someone will be able to tell you more about how to go about this soon (maybe tomorrow as I think most of the cat people have gone to bed already)

I didnt however want to read and run and I do hope your poorly cat gets better and can come home to you and his friend xxxx

Re: cat proof garden

when we get our new kitten leo,
we r making him a big cat run!
you can make it as big as your yard!
also, you can get these wire fence things that you put on your fence (search on google:how to kep cat in yard) it may be a bit expensive but it is said to work!

Re: cat proof garden

The peace of mind is worth it. There is someone on the forum who installs fabuluous catproofing. For the life of me, I can't think of his name. But he should be along shortly.
Best wishes for Freddie's speedy recovery

Cat Colditz

This is my thread about how I cat proofed my back garden ( well, my maintenance guy! ) It was relatively easy to do and cost less than £450 including labour for about 35 linear metres.
Heavy Duty Restraint Straps 1200 x 150mm Pack of 10 | Screwfix.com
This is what we used for the brackets which can be easily bent into the shape required. I bought deer mesh which is light but strong and used cable ties and a staple gun to secure. It looks a bit stark and bare right now as we cut down all climbers to put it up, but come spring I am sure it will soften up a bit. For me the sacrifice of the look of the garden is well worth it to know my cats are all safe.

I am sorry to hear your cat has been injured and really hope he pulls through.

Re: cat proof garden

Hope Freddie recovers well! My cat got run over in June and was in intensive care for 2 weeks his prognosis wasn't very good but he has now made a full recovery barring a limp and some teeth missing! He now has a cat run but during my research of ideas for it I came a cross loads of ways to cat proof your garden, unfortunately it wasn't possible in ours cos of the layout/ shape etc good luck c

Re: cat proof garden

This is how we cat proofed our garden.
We used metal elbows fixed to 6ft fencing and then fixed heavy duty netting to it.
It works very well and it's great cuse you know that they are safe and you know where they are.
Hope your little one makes a full recovery very soon x

Re: cat proof garden

I absolutely loooove these cat-proofing ideas. However I suspect my garden is just too "complex" for this to work for us - we've got a flat roof shed, greenhouse, numerous trees etc and I just can't see how to work round all of these so I'm looking at an Oscar's Mam style enclosure, I think. I'm thinking about adding it to onto the (quite new, 10ft by 7ft and currently redundant!) shed via catflap. Just wish I had the money and the skills!

Thats why we couldn't go down that route because of our garage and small walls enclosed in the garden, just wouldn't have worked unfortunately x
