Re: cat run and litter tray

I have no odour from my 4 unless I get sick as bro refuses to help *ever* and if I'm severely ill they get scooped when I'm conscious and upright (every other day in worst case scenario)

I think the bit is 'mum wants his tray outside' - fussy mum? by time kitten is old enough to do that tray would established inside

Re: cat run and litter tray

I think if some people don't have much experience with cats -and judging from all the questions the OP has been asking, I am guessing this to be the case here - then they are inclined to believe that cat trays are smelly dirty things. Usually gleaned from being in the house of another cat-owner who doesn't clean the tray often, properly and using a poor quality litter.

If the OP makes sure that a covered tray is used, along with good litter, and cleaned regularly thoughout the day, then her mum will quickly realise that trays are not smelly or disgusting.

It's all a learning curve for many people.

Re: cat run and litter tray

I absolutely agree MB but surely her mum should not be expecting a young kitten to go outside in the cold to go to the toilet? It should be confined to one room to begin with anyway.

Definitely agree about lack of experience and knowledge.

Again, possibly something the OP needs to discuss with her Mum and advise on as she is asking all the questions and getting all the answers.

That's how mine have been the past week - though as I just discovered, I'm glad my nose has been blocked - the tray in the other room (non-clumping litter) needed a complete change - how hubby couldn't tell is beyond me - I'd been doing regular poop scoops but it was the pee smell that hit you.

That being said, I also have a hooded tray in the room (clumping type litter) where I spend most of the day, and that gets scooped at least once a day (normally twice) - plus after any particularly smelly deposits, and you would barely know it was even there.

Personally I prefer the clumping litter, as I've found it less work just the scooping duties & a refil as needed so far where the non-clumping litter tray we have needs a complete change at least once sometimes twice a week - this is in addition to the daily scooping. The only reason we have the non-clumping litter is that our 2nd tray is an open one, and if we put the finer grained clumping litter in it, it would take about 5 minutes for Oslo to have flung it all over the floor (as shown when we first tried it in the hooded tray without the hood on).
