Question what to expect?

hello

Me and my BF currently own a 5 month old kitten called Riley!, recently we decided to get Riley a play companion and being siamese i think he would like the extra compnay!!

We emailed Rileys breeder as our first point of call and as luck would have it she had a female kitten 14 weeks old avaliable! she sounded ideal so we are going to look at her and hopefully take her home this friday..i'm very excited!!

i just wondered what to expect when we first introduce them to each other and any thoughts on the best way to go about this? I am quite nervous and worried as in the past i have only cats that were sibling so have no experience in the matter. I'm hoping that because they are still kittens they should be quite accepting of one another!

any advice greatly appriciated

Re: what to expect?

hi and welcome to the forum.......as Riley is still so young himself i dont think you will get too many problems, maybe a few hissy sessions but im sure they will be chasing eachother around in no time at all, good luck with them both...........chris

Re: what to expect?

Hi & Welcome to you.
I got some advice off a very good & experienced breeder a long time ago. She said, baby wipe any cats all over, including their bums, you have in the house, then rub in some baby talc when they are dry. Then when you get the new one, do the same. That way they all smell the same and you don't get too many problems. Well I thought she was mad, lol........But, it works

Re: what to expect?

Hi MidgetV and welcomeAs well as the good advice from Chris and Selks, you can also keep the new kitty in her carrier and swap their blankets/toys and let them get used to each others smells for an hr or so and then take it from theirAlso be aware that Siamese girls can have their 1st call at 17 wks,so keep your eye on them,it is unusual but possible and even though her bodys a bit hormonal, her head may not be and this can cause a bit of tension depending how she reacts and how he does

Re: what to expect?

Hi and welcome!

All kittens and cats are different so you will just need to take it gradually and see how they go. The advice given already is brilliant so I think you won't go too far wrong if you take your guidance from there!

Hope it all goes well

Lou

Re: what to expect?

Thank you for the welcome and your replies.

I have never heard about the talcum powder trick before! I’m not to sure what riley would think of me if I did cover him in the stuff! And I think my fella might think I have gone a bit crazy too!

I think the swapping of items is a good idea and would work best for us! I was going to have the new kitten stay in our bedroom for a few hours so she can get use to things, I can easily place a few of Riley’s fave toys in the room with her during this time.

Once she was settled I was going to introduce Riley and hope for the best! If it’s likely just to be a few hisses I think I can cope with that!

Thanks for warning Kelly about the first time of call; Riley is having the snip on the 9th of December just when the girl will be 17 weeks :S so might see if I can move this forward!

Oh and do you have any name suggestions? We were thinking of the name sassy but not sure it goes with Riley!

Thanks again

Re: what to expect?

Ooohh! Lucky you! two Siamese babies!! I'm sure they'll soon get used to each other as they are both young. I'm still working on getting my Gizmo to accept my Siamese baby but because he doesn't come in very much it's not too easy.
