Help wanted on grooming
Hi all let me introduce myself i am new on here. I have got lots of pets 2 dogs i cat and today i ended up with 2 more kittens. 1 of which is a gorgeous long haired little man. Unfortunatley he has been born in a barn and i dont think he has ever been brushed. He is covered in his own poo and has matts all over him and despite all this he is still dead sweet and loving.
I need to get all of this mess out of him and try and get rid of all the mats, i would like to try and do this with out having to have him clipped. Does any 1 have any good advice on how to do this please. |

Re: Help wanted on grooming
hiya,
depending on lump size i'd cut the easy one's away -his coat will grow back quick enough so dont worry about that xx brush little and often and just be gentle, but anything you cannot brush out without hurting him i'd say try to just cut out for now if you don't want to clip hun xx welcome to the forum x |

Re: Help wanted on grooming
Hi thanks for that advice i think most of the ones around his kneck and things should brush out The big task is going to be his back end, he is absaloutley covered in cat poo. It is caked all above his tail and so far up his back really bad. Do you think if i try bathing him it will soften it up and i will be able to get it out??????

eek: If the poo has caked on you can soak it in the sink, but it takes a while to soften and don't forget your rubber gloves. If there is a lot of it however and it has added to over a length of time you will probably pull out most of the hair in that sensitive area trying to tease it out, even once it has softened slightly, not to mention the added stress to your kit of being soaked in the bath for any length of time in the first place. In that case clipping would probably be the kinder option. You can get your vet to do it for you, which may be advisable if you have never had experience with clippers. Or what I did was order some 'Mini Wahl Clippers' through my vet and did it bit by bit at home. The miniclippers cost about £15 and were brill, but you would definitely need the Wahl make as I have found others to be a waste of money in the past. I wouldnt try doing it with scissors as you could easily snick the skin and the coat will not in any case grow back as evenly as it would through clipping. Personally I would take your kit into the vet and get them to clip the dodgy areas in one fell swoop to get it over with, sooner you do that, sooner the coat will grow back as long and lovely as it should be. Hello again every 1 and thanks for all the advice.
![]() You will be pleased to know i have managed to sort out the kitten who has noe been named Muffin. I soaked him in the a nice warm bath (not to warm) and to be honest it didn't bother him that much. Most of what was on i have managed to get out and only had to cut 2 bits off. He is looking alot happier in himself and is now qiute happy to sit and have a cuddle. I also bathed Pickles his brother, like i said they had been living in barn outside in some sort of saw dust type bedding and they are not litter trained and all there little legs and tummeys were covered in urine. It is such a shame these are 2 lovely boys but have had such a bad start already at the min i have put both of them in my giant dog cage that is more than big enough for them. this is just untill i can get them used to the litter tray and being handled abit more as they are very scared little boys never bein in a house before.I am sure it will all be worth the effort and in no time at all i will have 2 little boys who are just like any other kittens and love to play and snuggle up with me and the rest of the gang on the couch. Thank you so much for all your help you have been great P.s will post a few pics soon |
