eye trouble....any tips for medicating?

hello
when i got up i noticed one of galis eyes was shut & a bit swollen, assume from playfight gone bad ( i assume playfight because they have done a couple of quick greetings today)

vet says the cornea isnt scratched (phew!) but gave an anti-imflamatory injection & antibiotic to be put in her eye twice a day

gali hates being flea treated - and this has to go in her eye ....i live on my own so will be doing this alone - any tips?
luckily have a bag of dreamies.....

any advice welcome!

Re: eye trouble....any tips for medicating?

Poor you and poor Galis! I had to put drops in Jaffes eyes the first week I got him and hadn't even bonded with me yet! I HATED doing it!! I found the best way of doing it for less stress all round is to sneak up on them while they are sleeping from behind, gently hold their head with one hand using the arm to hold them in place, with the thumb and fore finger of your other had pull down the lower lid and plop the drops in, massage gently to spread it and repeat on other side. (make sure you have treats to hand very important!!) If this fails then the alternative is to firmly wrap them up in towel to reduce struggling.

I hope that helps. Let us know how it goes and I hope her eye gets better soon. XX

Sorry just realised it was just the one eye at least thats have the stress out of it already

Hold her on the edge/corner of a table in a sort of arm lock keeping her bum/back pressed into you and with the arm lock arm hold her head and tilt it upwards, make sure you have drops/cream very close with the lid off and with free hand apply to the bad eye, hope that makes sense and wear a thick long sleeved top, speed is of the essence.

The first time usually isn't too bad, it's the second and third time when they know whats coming is when it gets really fun

Good luck with Gucci! Hope eye is better soon. OH is away at moment and I've got to do Loki with flagyl which apparently tastes very bitter. I've managed it once but I suspect now he knows what is coming it will be worse!

No blood actually not even a scratch! Just done him and he didn't like it one bit [and it took two attempts to get get it all down him as quite a bit of liquid]. He's already forgiven me though. Still got to him 5 more doses before OH gets back. Just hope it sorts his runny bum out!
