My cat has always been unfriendly
It's a long story, but please read...
We found her (princess) when she was 2 weeks old, and she was running in the street. We picked princess up, took her home. A week later we found the owner who lives down the road, and the owner didn't even realise she had gone because they so many kittens all the time, she doesn't notice. We returned the kitten to the owner, but after a few days, we missed princess, so we asked for her back. The owner brought her round in a paper bag... ![]() Anyways, this was the first time we ever had a pet and she settled in well. She was always playful and our whole family gave her such much love and care. 8 months on, we could tell she was becoming less and less 'fun' she would never sit near us, and if she was sleeping or laying down, she would get up and walk enough distance away from us if we tried to stroke/pat her. We went to get her spayed but we found out that she could have babies inside her. Eventually, she had them, they were amazing, fun, and cute. She was the best mother ever, always looked after them, fed them, cleaned them. We gave them away to families we trusted and we visit them every so often. So now shes the only cat in the house again, it took some getting used to for all of us. But again, she just sits around, looking bored. Shes very unfriendly, she will never look at you or come to you when you call her. She will never come and sit on you, your bed or anything. She doesn't like people stroking her either. So we go to get her spayed after giving the last kitten away a week later. And guess what, she's gone and had sex again... She had more kittens blah blah blah, and they were here with me now running around crazy. She feeds them for 3 mins, and walks off when they are still hungry (She never did this the first time) ANYWAY, i just wonder why shes so anti-social, and unfriendly. Oh and i forgot to say, i have never, ever, ever in her 20months, heard her purr. EVER. She never licks or nudges anyone with her head. Just lays around, sleeping or exploring the outside during the day. Please can someone explain why she has always been like this, or what we can do to make her friendly and loving. Thanks. |

Re: My cat has always been unfriendly
she was more than 2 weeks old when you first found her - 2 weeks old kittens can barely support their weight (never mind run) and their eyes are only just open - they are totally reliant on mum for food and toileting etc.
Anyhow she should have been spayed at 6 months - one of the reason she got antisocial was because she became fertile and all she was interested in finding a mate, and then you let that happen again! Now wonder the poor thing is antisocial. When you finally got her at whatever age she was - if 'running down the street' then at least 6 weeks - did you sit and play with her lots, get her used to being handled and cuddled and fussed over? She may just be a more reserved cat, many are! If her kittens are running round they are over 4 weeks old and ready to be weaned - please make sure mum isn't going outside as she is quite probably in call already (hence the not wanting to be with the kittens) and will be pregnant again very soon. Get her booked in for a spy NEXT WEEK! Get the kittens onto solid food and hope once they are gone she settles into being a happy neutered cat - many cats settle and become much more affectionate once the hormones are forcing them to go looking for a mate.

Re: My cat has always been unfriendly
Really you need to wait a few more weeks - but if she is going out then rather than have another litter so soon after the first two I'd spay her. Having three litters so close will seriously cause her to lose condition and I'd be grumpy if that's all I was doing, being pregnant, birthing, feeding, being pregnant, birthing, feeding, being pregnant etc with no proper time to recover in between.
