Exclamation Heart Attack!

So, picture the scene; dinnertime for the kittens and all is well. Fish defrosted, served up with love and yours truly quickly pops downstairs to wash up the dishes from the last round of attempting to fill the bottomless pits. Literally 2 minutes later, I head back upstairs. Kittens GONE.

I frantically check all the usual spots, bottom of the wardrobe, on top of the wardrobe, behind beds, under beds. I'm positive there's no way they could have got past me in the kitchen to reach the cat-flap - I know I closed the door, and they usually sound like a herd of elephants passing through. You've less chance of hearing an atomic bomb go off. 10 minutes of running around the house later, I'm on the verge of knocking on the neighbour's doors to start 'The Search'

Last place I check is in the tiny space under our reclining sofa. There they are, of course, blinking at me with that 'Do you mind? We were sleeping here, thanks. Close the door on your way out' expression...

I don't think I'm ready for all this

Anyone else been through this?

oh yes and i have had it many times, last time was a couple of weeks ago i couldn't find the kitten kami i was terrified that she had got out the roof window (don't ask me how i came to that conclusion completely irrational) and i went round the house screaming i couldn't find her anywhere, i screamed at my friend who lives with me and her cats i looked everywhere.... apparently i didn't look in this little nook where i keep carrier bags from shopping she was sitting there like 'what' i was 2 mins away from searching the neighbourhood so scary

Re: Heart Attack!

Awww...bless you! I think it comes with the territory of having kittens I have learnt 1st check their favourite hang outs, 2nd check the places they like to jump out at you from and 3rd check the weird places you would not even think twice about 4th they are never in an obvious spot Last time I thought I had lost Jaffe he turned out to be hiding behind the curtains in the bedroom

That's definitely the case, you do become irrational in that situation. I instantly second-guessed myself about whether I'd properly shut the door, and had visions of them running off down the road. Next door's dogs are in no way cat-friendly either - not that I would let the boys out regardless - so my heart was in my mouth

Glad to hear that we are all in the same (worried) boat though

Edit - photographic evidence of their naughty escapades!

Re: Heart Attack!

Willow did that to the OH the second day we had her

I had a dentist appt, so off I went (its only at the end of the road), got back about half an hout later, as soon as I walked in the door he was 'Tell mummy what you did' in a very stern voice

He was emptying her litter box, and when he came back in he couldnt find her anywhere - he was on the verge of ringing me to tell me he had lost the cat when he heard a little meow coming from under the coffee table - its only about 2 inches off the floor! (her bum doesnt fit under there anymore )

He said afterwards he was gonna pack his bags and leave me a note - he was more scared of telling me he had lost her than he was of her going missing
