Re: Small hobbie Breeder

Hi Alan & Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you're not having a very good experience with the breeder. Whilst kittens frequently do get eye infections for different reasons, I for one would never sell any unless they were 100% and would always explain to potentional owners if there was a problem, so they could decide wether to have a kitten or not. Alarm bells would of rang with me too to be honest. I actually insist on people coming to see my kittens before I sell any to them, so I can meet them and ask questions and vice versa. We as breeders don't make any money, it does as Lou says cost a lot to raise kittens to 13 plus weeks. I do however think that this lady from what you are saying is more than a hobby breeder, if she has no time to meet owners and let them see her kittens. I for one would never buy a kitten from somebody like that.

Re: Small hobbie Breeder

Hi there selk

Many thanks for your kind words on welcoming me to the community.

I have madam my year old blue neuter and belle my silver spotted girl now 6 month old

I was always willing to go round on numerous occasions but they couldnt find the right time for me to go round and see the kittens.

My only time was the first time and i got my lovely belle from them but after that first visit they may as well of lived on the moon instead of been only a relativley short distance away.

We had a great chat on that visit and they made me feel confident on getting a nice kitten and be able to see the kitten on at least one more occasion and then when it arose a few weeks later they had a second one available i chatted again and we decided it would be good to take the 2nd girl but i had to rely on pictures alone which were few and far between but when you meet a breeder for the first time you dont know what they are really like so i could not judge them and still do not want to but i have posted on here today as a last resort to see what help and suggestions i can get before i get in contact with the gccf and name the breeder in these forums to make others aware of my experience with this breeder.

Re: Small hobbie Breeder

You're very welcome. We are all here to help and support if we can.
Sadly there are breeders that will as I class it "suck you in" so to speak to get you to buy a kitten. Sadly when I 1st started I had similar experieces to you, so can totally understand where you are coming from. Thankfully most of us are not like that and are happy for people to visit, see how the cats are kept, ask questions, send the odd picture. Though I will say with regards to pictures, sometimes there is'nt time to take any and get them to people straight away, but I for 1 will try.
I think you could contact GCCF and see where you stand with things before taking any action.

Re: Small hobbie Breeder

I strongly advise you do NOT name the breeder on here before the situation is resolved as it may affect any disciplinary action with the GCCF and any legal action you may take.

Forgive me if I have misread but have you phoned the breeder? sent a letter recorded delivery giving them 7 days to return your money? there are several steps you could take that might mean your money is returned to you more quickly.

Re: Small hobbie Breeder

lol i wouldnt do that but how many of you want to know who it is!!!!!

I am not telling either way

Hopefully it will get resolved but communications need to be much better from this breeder as it is always me what has to keep initiating emails as when you ring them it goes through to their voicemail.

But i have got a record of all emails posted between us so if there was a need to contact gccf regarding the matter they would be enclosed.

Re: Small hobbie Breeder

Goodluck with this problem you are experiencing.
I would be very interested in how you manage to resolve this issue.

Unfortunately some cat breeders give other cat breeders a bad name.
I understand that the money paid by you could have already been swallowed up in the daily running costs but I find it incredulous that they are not prepared to make time to sort this problem out with you.
If they have so many cats/kittens at the moment how hard would it be to offer a replacement, either now or when a suitable one becomes available?

I have been effected by 2 breeders now (well respected & swooned upon by many in the bengal world.)
I have a great belief - it is not that you may breed a cat that develops problems, it is how you deal with any problems that arise that sets you apart from others.

I just wish that sometimes instead of counting the expense it has cost them (the breeders) to replace a kitten they would realise that what they gain in the long run by doing the right thing will repay them tenfold.
Face it are you likely to recommend a breeder who has given you a raw deal or someone who has put things right?

Sorry rant over & goodluck
