Are long haired cats more chilled?

In your experience have you noticed a difference in cats character between long and short haired? I know it may sound silly to ask. It may be coincidence but I've always found longhaired or semi longhaired cats to be calmer and more chilled that shorthaired ones.
As I say, may be coincidence. What do you think?

Re: Are long haired cats more chilled?

Well there might be something in it, as a lot of the longhaired breeds are described as 'laid-back', e.g., Persians are supposed to be not especially active and they enjoy being admired (my Persian was certainly like this!). And orientals are meant to be very active and vocal.

But it's like anything else - if these are the stereotypes there are always going to be exceptions. Two of my Maine Coons are super-laid-back and mellow, and will go to anyone, but one is very jumpy and 'highly-strung'. Yet they are all from the same breeder, same house, and all are well-socialised.

Re: Are long haired cats more chilled?

Our first cat was a longhaired tortie called Zippy (we werent allowed Bungle!) - she was very chilled - unless you went to touch her!

She would lay on my mums chest with her feet on mums shoulders - but she couldnt stroke her

Re: Are long haired cats more chilled?

my Gypsy is long haired and utterly evil

Ok - she's a sweetie pie really - on her terms only.

If *she* lays on you then you may fuss her all you like

Any other time you *will* get nommed

That may be the tortie thing though
