Cat shampoo

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone knows where I can get nice smelling cat shampoo I am using Johnson baby shampoo at the moment for bathing and also washing my Persian kitten's bum when ever he does a poo the thing is when he's done a poo and I wash his little bottom it still smell strongly of his toilet.

I use a good bit of shampoo then rinse him twice but he still smells I have to use a lot of Johnson's baby powder to make him smell nice. I would love him to smell sweet and not having a good wiff of his poo odour when he walked past or sit near me. I love him so much.

Re: Cat shampoo

Your cat shouldn't need a bath, cats are very clean animals, and you certainly don't need to be washing his bottom for him. If his bottom is a mess, it could be an underlying health problem or incorrect food for him.

My kitten is a Persian and has very think furs around his bottom he is fine when it is hard poo but the minute he does a soft poo he is a mess, my kitten is also fed only on fresh organic breast chicken, applaws fish dishes and fresh rib eye beef with either fresh peas, carrots, marrow and rice. my old cat was the same he too a Persian and lived up to 20 years old.

I don't think it's an underlying problems Persians are long fur animals unlike their short fur counterpart tend to get very messy when they have soft poo or roll around on the floors I would also hate to have my cat walking around with dried smelly poo around his little bottom and I couldn't bare the thought of him having to lick his poo clean let alone messing my furnitures, beddings etc so I help him to keep clean by washing him after any soft poo.

Persians cat need to have a bath at least twice a year because of their long furs it's pretty normal. The breeder actually gave him a good bath before we brought him home. He is a very healthy kitten always playing hardly ever sick and always eat well it could be because his food are fresh hence! the stronger smells anyway I shall take him for a visit to the vet and mention about the smellies.

We just want some nice smelling shampoo in mean time.

My kitten keep clean and I only wash him when he has soft poo or runs luckily he has soft poo or runs now and then not very often that's all because he has think and long furs there is no way I will let him run around with a messy bum. The smell tend to stay about a bit even though he'd has a wash it tend to smell better when his furs are dried.

Hi Marie,

Ok firstly if they have sloppy poo regularly I would get them checked out at the vet it might be that their food might not agree with them or it could be something else. Secondly you can't get rid off the poo smell/ toilet smell straight away it hangs around a little bit and no matter what you do you still have the smell of wet cat which isn't so nice.

Jaffe has had the toilet problems which a slight change in diet helped and being that he is also a semi long hair sometimes poo just gets stuck in the fur. I bought Pet Head Purrtastic shampoo for Jaffe when he was having toilet troubles and that smells of passion fruit and I have tushie wipes for those rare occasions when he gets poo caught in his fur. I find those are really good and they really really help with smells. Also as an extra I got Pet Head pretty kitty detangler for grooming (it really helps with the knots especially during moulting)

As a rule - no cats don't need to be bathed but I also know a lot of owners who do and especially the owners who show their cats and who have long hair/ semi long hair cats and unfortunately you do get the cats out there who need a helping hand with grooming. First port of call though is to find out if they have upset tummies.

I hope this helps

I can understand what a mess your Persian kitten can get into when he has a soft poo. There is so much fur, that it can't result in anything but a stinky mess.

I have found with my 2 that the water just seems to spread it around. I also use Johnson's Baby Powder and find that if you sprinkle it on to the affected area, attempt to rub it in with a small piece of kitchen roll, well the powder seems to dry the mess up. Sometimes a comb is needed if there is a big mess.

After the kitten has washed himself, perhaps apply some more powder.

Is he well behaved when you are applying shampoo and water etc. or does he wriggle about a lot?

The organic chicken sounds a good idea. How often does he have this. Is it chicken that we would eat or some special type of kitten food?

Scarlett

I agree that's what I did with my old Persian twice a year or if he had a really messy soft poo bum.
