british blue pussy cats

hiya everybody im new to this forum and just wanted to ask a couple ov questions please,
i have fallen in love with british blue cats but have never owned a pedigree cat before only your usuall domestic moggy, now i wouldnt want to breed my new cat and would rather it spent sometime outside in my garden or on top of my shed/fence to do its private busniess as i would really hate to have a smelly cat litter tray in my house,i have tried to reserch outside british blue but it says there apartment type cats, now does anybody on here own or know anybody that owns a british blue outside cat is it safe for them or do you think they have to be an indoors cat, sorry for my rambling
thanks in advance
paula x

Welcome to you.
I honestly could'nt see many breeders selling you a kitten to be let to roam outdoors. Though you could catproof your garden so it could'nt get anywhere else. If you can't stand the thought of litter trays what would you do with a kitten ? You could'nt just let it out and expect it to do it's business outside

hiya thanks for your reply,i wasnt thinking of letting it roam about outside ,for one thing i live in quite a rough area and somebody would definitly try to steal it it was more like for maybe an hour a day maybe just sitting on my shed having a good nosey of the world, and about the litter tray i proberly hopeing that it would already be litter trained and i could just put it in the corner ov my garden,do you really think a breeder wouldnt want to sell me one becouse ov this

Yes Wendy was gonna say the same. Surely being an indoor cat would make you feel more comfortable knowing that he/she was safe.

I'm sure statistics say that an outdoor cat has a life expectancy of 3 years Glad mine are indoor!

Why not think about harness training if you don't want kitty out all the time. Lots of people are starting to do this with great results.

Trouble is, it would'nt just sit on your shed, anything could make it wander off, what if a car backfired or a firework went off ? It would be gone in a split second. Yes most kittens come litter trained, but you can't stick a tray in your garden and expect a tiny kitten to use it there. If as you say your area is that bad and you really can't stand the thought of litter trays ect I would'nt get a cat to be honest.

Re: british blue pussy cats

Majority of cats if let outside will roam.

I live in an apartment and own 2 Ragdolls, which again are strictly indoor cats. I was a bit aprehensive about a smelly litter tray but my 2 little furr bombs use a hooded tray, and biodegradable, clumping litter (chick crumbs!)

Now because the litter clumps it holds in the odurs and can then be flushed straight down the toilet, with it being biodegradable.

I seriously wouldnt get a pedigree cat if you are not willing to keep it indoors, especially being in a "rough area". It's simply not fair on the cat as it would be stolen, run over or probably victimised by idiots. (Alot of pedigree cats are not very streetwise and wouldnt run away from danger)

Re: british blue pussy cats

Most pedigrees are bred to be indoor cats, our breed for one is not meant to wander our streets, they are either stolen or worse killed. They just are not street wise like a moggy. Not that my moggy goes out either. We do have runs and a cat proofed yard though

i dont see why it would wonder off really, like i said in my above post i have had a cat before who liked to roam about and always turned up safe and sound even if a car backfierd he would usualy just hide in the bushes by the side of my house!!we did litter train him and about 2 weeks later he was doing his buisness around the corner but i would hate a litter tray in my house permently
