Vet receptionists

The vet I go to (changing after Skye has been spayed) employs school children on week nights to help out and do the reception, they are 5th and 6th year I think. Most of them are very helpful, in fact some of them are better than the normal receptionists they have during the day - well at least, not as rude anyway!

Well, I managed to get a urine sample from Spencer last night (thanks to OH's mum getting me a syringe from her work) so I phoned to ask if I should take it in then. The girl on reception just sort of said "erm, I dunno, yeah" so I asked if they test there and then, "erm, hold on I'll just ask. Erm, you can leave it here if you want", oh ok I'll be down shortly, "oh ok, erm, bye". I got there and the phone rang just as I walked in, it was someone asking something about shampoo from what I heard and the girl was like "erm, can I phone you back in like eh 2 minutes". I gave her the sample and when she finally found my details on the computer it came to £3.08. I handed her a £20 note and said I had the 8p too so gave her that. She then proceeded to give me £16.92 change I had to tell her it should have been £17 as I gave her the 8p. She just kinda went "err, ok, sorry"

I don't think there is anything worse than speaking to a receptionist who knows nothing about the company they work for or the procedures! I know she was only young but she just didn't seem to have a clue! Dread to think what she would have done if I had phoned with an emergency!

Re: Vet receptionists

Year 5 & 6? That can't be right. That's 10-11 year olds. That would be illegal.

But yeah, it seems like the receptionists at quite a few vet practices are a bit simple.

Re: Vet receptionists

I think kaz25 means 5th and 6th year of Senior School . Sounds like the school kids are brighter than the regular receptionists. Its good that they are doing work experience and something that's probably quite desirable among their peers rather than fipping burgers at MacDonalds

Hmm, thing that made me wonder was when I went for the bottle the other girl on reception (different to the one last night) asked if I knew what test it was for errr, just want to test him for a uti. Surely they should know, or at least ask which one that is?

Think it was a Combur 9 or something he got??

Re: Vet receptionists

You'd hope they would know.

Mind you it took me two attempts to get Oscar's done as the first one i collected was left over the weekend in their postbox, despite me being told by one of the receptionists that it would be fine to pop it in there on the way to work

I rang and spoke to the practice manager as I get annoyed when they are not very clear about the pricing of things. She was going to have a word with them all!
