Just in case it helps, I'll share something that worked unexpectedly for us. It's a long time ago now, must be 20 years, can't believe how time flies. We had our first cat, Jimmy, then adopted a kitten, Sophie, when we'd had Jimmy about 5 months or so. Jimmy, who was the most loving cat with us, took exception to Sophie's arrival and made her life a misery. He would chase her, and really rough her up when he caught her. She was tiny and we dare not leave them alone together and had to shut them in different rooms when we were out.

Holiday time came round, after we'd had them a couple of months. We took them to a cattery, explained to the lady there how they were and asked for them to be in separate pens. The cattery lady said she was sure that wouldn't be necessary they were both on unfamiliar ground and would take comfort from each other's being the only familiar thing they had. We were very dubious and worried that Jimmy would do her some harm, but she promised to supervise them and separate them if there was any hint of trouble.

When we came back they were snuggled up in the same bed. From that time we never looked back and they got on fine for the next 15 years until they died them within a few months of each other.

Just a thought, that if you get desperate, you might try treating yourself to a weekend away and put them in a cattery
