Kitten scratching

Savannah is 13weeks old and is scratching and biting quite roughly when she is playing, she has pretty sharp teeth and nails :-( Anyway to stop her doing this?

Re: Kitten scratching

What toys are you using when playing with her. Are they fishing type toys? There should be some distance between the toy and you so she doesn't get the chance to bite/scratch.

I would suggest saying "No" firmly when she does it and stop play immediately. Every time she plays well and doesn't do it, praise her and give lots of cuddles.

Make sure no one in the house is using fingers/toes to play with her as that sends out mixed signals.

Also she is quite young so trimming her claws would be a good idea.

Just being a kitten

They do grow out of it eventually. Dexter would play really rough with me (I did encourage him though) but when he hit a few months old he just couldn't be bothered anymore.

Re: Kitten scratching

Ozzie has just gone nuts scratching and biting me. I had to leave.him all day.today which is unusual. Plenty of toys to play with & was very pleased to see me on my.return but then has just scratched & bitten my hands to pieces. Tried saying no, blowing on him, putting him down and not playing. Not sure if it was payback for leaving him or pent up excitement. Either way it hurts!

Give your kitten lots of attention. Provide her a scratching post but don't allow your kitten to play roughly with you if you want to discourage her biting and scratching habit. You should try diverting her attention by providing cat toys that keep her amused. Toys like ping pong balls, a ball of silver paper, a feather, a toy mouse can keep her amused for hours.

Re: Kitten scratching

Whenever your kitty does it say "no". Works with mine.
