Introducing a new cat

i have been thinking about getting a second kitten as a playmate for Ninja...
What sort of things do i need to take into consideration beforehand?

Ninja is a good cat and has been neutered, i have heard that it would be unwise to introduce another male kitten, how true is this?

Re: Introducing a new cat

Looking at my two boys snuggled up together - I don't think introducing a 2nd male would be a problem - especially Ninja is neutered already. Admittedly my 2 are only 11 & 13 weeks - but I doubt that would make that big a difference.

There is a great thread on introducing kittens to older cats - well worth the read (in the end I didn't follow it as we'd only had our first kitten for 2 weeks when we got our 2nd one but it was my backup plan if things hadn't gone well).

I also introduced a male kitten to a neutered older boy recently - no real issues at all, though I think the older boy is pretty laid back as he's met our new little girl today and not turned a hair, bless him!

I think it depends on the cat/s really.

I recently introduced a 2 yr old neutered boy to my 2 yr old neutered boys. A bit of hissing from one of my boys but that was all. Certainly not 'unwise'
