Door netting?

Hi guys,

Had another go at letting the cats out... Not entirely successful (neither seem to bothered about going out, having fights with neighbourhood tom and OH is on edge as Spartacus, our delicate flower, managed to injure herself while out.) oh doesn't particularly want to let them out but likes the fresh air and so has suggested netting of some sort so we can have the French doors open but they can't get out.

I've had a quick google and found a few products, but has anyone managed this? And if so, what's it like? Does it block all light out?

I really think this will be ideal, as I don't particularly like them going out so hopefully there's a decent product out there (cat proofing the garden is difficult as our fence has a gap at the bottom so it can open due to the decking...)

ANY help would be gratefully received.

Re: Door netting?

We've made screen doors for our last 2 houses that are basically a wooden frame in 2 layers with flyscreen netting trapped in between. It's hinged either inside or outside (depending which way the existing doors open) and can close with a bolt, catch, or whatever you want.

A good supplier of netting in the UK is Fly Screen Queen (should come up on Google). Their netting is very tough and can handle cats climbing up it, and it doesn't affect light in the room.

If you don't have the DIY skills to make the frame yourself, it's a straightforward job for a carpenter, so you should be able to get something made pretty cheaply.

Re: Door netting?

I might have to think about something similar for next summer as it's been a nightmare keeping the back door closed these past few days. I've been out with Oz as much as possible but there've been times when being able to open the door would have been heaven!
