Do you sometimes bring your cat in from outside before he/she's ready?

I'm a bit worried.......I let mine go out only when I'm home and usually make sure it's before they are fed and when I've plenty of time to let them come in in their own time. This is roughly every other day but will only be at weekends as winter gets nearer. This has been working well with them actually coming back where I can see them when I call them 75/80% of the time.Just now though they hadn't been out for very long when I needed to get them in (long story). One had come in anyway (it was pouring with rain outside!) but when I went to get the other he came to me but then ran off at first when I tried to pick him up!(I know they hadn't had long outside) I did get him eventually as he wasn't trying very hard to run off! I'm just wondering though/worrying a bit-will this destroy all the good work I've done in getting them to come back? Both settled just fine by the way once they were back in.

When Bumble my semi feral was still out after dark I often had to go looking for him.Usually he was in next doors garden mouse hunting, which involved sitting still, waiting at a pile of rocks for, a silly mouse to show its self.He would sit for hours ,just waiting for the chance to chase one.He objected, very strongly, to being picked up, but I couldnt rest until he was in for the night and many times I had to risk being shredded by an unhappy boy.Never stopped him coming back in the next day though.

I have just brought Oscar in as it's getting dark - to his disgust, though he's happy now with his kickeroo. Strictly speaking he's an indoor cat but I take him in the garden with me in a harness (well jacket really) when I'm out doing jobs and in the greenhouse. He's usually on a lead but I do sometimes let him off and follow him round the garden, my fences are high and he's never made any attempt to climb them or get out in any way. I know I need to be really careful.

Anyway I've just brought him in as he's all black and it's hard to see him in his desert camo jacket at dusk

Mine just do as they bloody well like!! I can stand on the doorstep calling them, they will appear saunter half way up the path then decide its time for a roll about then look like they are going to come thru the door and then just sit down totally ignore me then pretend something more interesting has caught their attention then casually saunter off!! The only time they come running is when they the magic cat food tin opening!

My Mercedes plays 'chase me' she sits close and then when you move to get her she moves off just a little, and so we continue until i turn round to go back in, then she follows lol!

The other come when called as they think treats are in the offing
