Cool So excited ...and a couple of questions too...

As some of you may have read we are getting a 21 week old kitten friend (actually sister) for Oscar:

Earliest neutering?

I am picking her up tomorrow but have a couple of questions.

Firstly how slow/careful do I need to be introducing two 21 week old kittens? I have an older cat who has accepted Oscar beautifully (possibly because he's an outdoor cat and can go out whenever he wants to get away) so I'll go slowly with him but are 21 week olds still young enough to be classed as kittens and, therefore, a bit easier to introduce?

Secondly I have been harness training Oscar since he was 12 weeks old in one of these:
CAT WALKING / LEASH TRAINING JACKET HARNESS VEST - **L@@K NEW FABRICS** | eBay

He's fully used to it now and sits and waits for me to put it on him; we generally only go in the garden so far though I have begun to take him to the woods near our house when it's quiet. I'd love to do this with our new girl but is 21 weeks too old to try and introduce a harness?

We are so excited, hope Oscar feels the same when she gets here

PS I have tried to load the fairly rubbish photos I have of her aged about 7 weeks taken when we visited Oscar but can't manage it. She's a very pretty grey tabby.

Thought of something else - am I right in assuming I need an extra litter tray ie one each plus an extra?

Re: So excited ...and a couple of questions too...

Hmmmmm perhaps I could get away with one for each to start with then.

Do they have to be far away from each other (so the other one doesn't put the toileting one off, so to speak)?

While I'm asking annoying questions - sorry - I think she's been kept on Go-Kat, how quickly can I get her off that? Will it hurt to give her a bit of wet good stuff tomorrow?

Am seriously excited now!

I only used to have one as the two of them seemed fine with that but I suppose it is different if they are siblings and get on. I have two now though as Spencer has been peeing on the floor, they seem to use them both now. You will need two anyway as you may need to keep them separate when the new one first gets home as they may not get on straight away? My two trays are about 4 metres from each other, one under the kitchen unit and one under the table.

I'm guessing you mean dry food? I'd keep her on that just now and you could try mixing a bit of wet in with it after she has settled. I wouldn't do it until she has settled though as she may not eat for a while when she first comes home and mixing the wet in may put her off even more so I'd wait a few days before trying with the wet. Definitely try mixing it in with some dry for a while though if she won't eat it on its own. She may well eat it without you mixing it in though but I'd just give small amounts at first so it doesn't upset her tummy.

Re: So excited ...and a couple of questions too...

Forgot to answer questions in original post.

Re the introductions: it's entirely up to you how to do it. You can keep them apart for a couple of days then introduce them slowly or you could try putting the new one down in the carrier and letting Oscar smell her etc through the carrier. I'd maybe be inclined to wait until she is settled though. Only you will know the right way, you will be able to read the situation as it happens

With the harness, I don't think it's too late to try. And, all you can do is try and see how it goes

Re: So excited ...and a couple of questions too...

Thanks for the reply. I am worried about upset tummies as, though Oscar's bad tum has disappeared on his new wet diet, I did do it gradually. Getting rid of the Go-Kat is the best thing I've done but I guess I'll have to pick some up in the morning

I'm hoping they'll get on quite quickly as they are so young but I'm ready to separate and take it slow if not.

My two are mainly in the kitchen and living room (pretty open plan) so they have their trays there. Only time they are through the house is if I'm in my room, shower, sorting washing etc so it's never for any length of time. I also keep my doors shut when in the living room so they can't really roam or anything.
