Lightbulb kitten food

we picked our kitty yesterday and we also got kitten pack from the breeder..she also gave us tins of food, which she been feeding cats/kittens with.. personally..im not happy, its a cheap brand from the local store, nothin fancy, she said that its like "whiskas", i nearly fell off my feet when i heard that.. all dry good she was feeding him n gave me packets are science plan and purina, which im happy with.

i now want to change his wet food for good quality kitten food..

i need your help now and recommendations..i dont just wanna go for the most expensive i want to rely on your experience

btw.. charlie's poops are fine, just really smelly

thanks x

Re: kitten food

Okay, keep on what he's used to for a s=while just to make sure he's settled in. Then get him off the dry if you can - he will be a bit addicted to the carbs and sugars in it - so may take a while or just go cold turkey - neither Purina or Science Plan are that good for dry either - if you want to feed dry (which I don't recommend) feed a grain free one like Acana.

For wet foods your best choice is to go to Pet Supplies, Pet Food, Dog Food, Cat Food and Pet Accessories at Zooplus and look at things like Bozita, Aminonda Carny, Smilla etc - these work out at about 27p per 100g, Felix and the such like are about 26p per 100g - but the better meats you feed less of because they are better quality and so the cats ned less of it - they don't just poop it all out the other end. With these, as they are such good quality foods, you don't need to feed kitten food (it's a real gimmick) just feed the adult stuff. You will probably find once he's on a much reduced carb diet that his poos with smell considerably LESS!

breeder also told me to feed him two meals of wet food, day and night and have dry food out all the time.. what do you think his routine should be?

Definitely agree! I have spent the last couple of months getting Oscar off the dry Go Kat he was weaned on and onto high meat/low or no cereal wet foods (he's still addicted to his dry but it's all grain free now and getting less and less!) and he's gone from smelly, runny to stools to ..well...something a lot better (he looks like a shiny ball of healthiness as well). Then on Wednesday I caught him eating some leftover Gourmet Perle (my older boy still has this a little bit as he loves it so much and has had it for years) and three hours later he had very smelly diarrhoea which lasted a few hours.

It makes sense - why would a carnivore choose to eat cereal???

I'd go for small wet meals x 4 a day, and dry in between which you can leave out (small amounts only), you can then reduce the dry gradually if you wish (I'm trying to give it as a treat only but it's taking a long time to persuade Oscar, Harry's fine without it). If he's eating all the wet you put out increase it as kittens should eat as much as they want and not be restricted.

hi,

he doesnt eat all i get out for him.. tin contains 400g and breeder told me to give him 1/4 for each meal.. which means 100g - but only twice a day..

how much do you think on average one meal should contain (based on 4 meals a day)?

also im worried as its bsh i dont want him to be overweight.. i know that until they 1 they should eat as much as they want but i dont want him to get used to getting so much and all of the sudden reduce it when the right time comes..

when we brought him home we let him roam around and he had 2 wees, also had some of his food..
he seems nervous.. i mean.. we had him for just over 12 hours and i dont expect him to settle straight away but its strange that he feel safe with us on our bed, he spent all night laying in our feet or between us, hes now laying next to me sleeping..

he isnt really interested in the toys i got him, he prefer wires and cables lol

oh and he also loves my notebook, dont know if its the colour (bright red), or cos its worm when its on

we love him already <3

With dry as well that sounds ok - 200g might not be enough for a wet only diet. I found that Oscar couldn't manage 100g in one go - he still can't at five months! You might find that with 50g four times a day he eats more. As he grows he'll eat more as well as if you reduce his dry.
