New kitten in the house! (Help??)

Well, little Starbuck arrived in the house today and I think Jango is in love already, he is alternating between mewling and pawing at the door and just lying there on the towel (I am exchanging between the two of them for scent), smelling her scent and watching the door as if it will magically open.

Starbuck is SOOO different to Jango. She slept the whole way home (Jango mewled and vomited and mewled some more and was not happy ) and is alot more cautious and generally timid compared to what I got from Jango. She came from the same breeder, but Pam (the breeder) did say this litter was very different to her last ones, no idea why.

I have no put her away safely in her spare room and am letting her settle with some food and water and a litter tray and plenty of space and blankets and quiet until she feels more confident.

Whenever they have caught site of each other it has been Starbuck who has been hissing at Jango I am sure its just fear at this stage, but any suggestions on what I can do to help? I think she'll need to stay in the spare room overnight as I don't want to scare her with another whole room tonight.
On a positive note when she hears him mewling without seeing him, she does seem to "reply" with a gentle little kitten miaow.

There has been a Feliway in preparation in the room since Monday.

Any help appreciated

x

PS Jango is so cute, he is laying there staring at the door like some lovestruck teen

Aw bless............................

Are you able to sleep in the spare room with her? OH & I took it turns to do this with Abby when she first arrived. This will help her get more used to you but in a very relaxed environment.

It sounds as though you won't have too much trouble with your introduction. She'll hiss a bit but her natural curiosity should take over and Jango isin't that old so they should gel quite quickly.

And er........ don't be forgetting those piccies.......

Re: New kitten in the house! (Help??)

Sorry no good at advice with intro's,only tried it once and it was a spectacular failure.Puss and Buffie lived their lives completey seperate at all times. They hated each other so just avoided all contact. That said I think it all sounds good so far and they will be great pals soon. Now the important bit.Hello little Starbuck and welcome, could you ask your new slave for some pics please

Re: New kitten in the house! (Help??)

Thanks guys

Here some pics as demanded!

She is SUCH a pretty tortie point (even if I do say so myself ) I had to warm to seal tortie points at first and always thought they sort of needed to 'mature' into adulthood to look pretty - but oh my gosh, Starbuck is a pretty little girl I think its because her markings are so symmetrical

Anyway, here she is

Will try and sleep in the spare room tonight, but have issues with the bed in there atm.... will do my best Wont be a good night for either of us though, with a certain Blue Point Gentleman mewling incessantly all night at the door (he is constantly mewling whenever I am in there already, lol)

Re: New kitten in the house! (Help??)

okay, new questions As Starbuck was standing at the bedroom door this morning (I slept in the spare room) miaowing in response to Jango and his clawing at the door and his mewling, I thought it best to give them a chance to meet supervised. So I let Jango in and it was interesting, but nothing too disheartening I don't think.

Jango was SO good, no aggression at all from him (that I saw anyway... maybe I'm wrong?)

She was on the bed (as I put her there) and he just looked at her for a long while and kept his distance as she hissed alot. He made NO noise at all. Eventually he jumped on the bed which caused more hissing from her, so he jumped down again. She followed and then there was some more hissing from her (why follow if to hiss, lol) and then they exchanged some mild 'batting' with paws) but NOTHING aggressive from Jango. I could see he wasn't using claws, I think Starbuck was.

I realise its probably just Starbuck being scared, but I think the whole time Jango was trying to get behind her. He was only neutered last week, he's 6 months. Do I need to worry about anything in terms out mating? She's 3 months old.

I have now shut Jango in the bedroom (my room) so Starbuck can explore as she is desperate to (standing at the door mewling) but I don't get her at all... she will stand at the door where Jango is shouting to see him but when she does she just hisses

Help

Re: New kitten in the house! (Help??)

Personally I'd just let them get on with it - he's being good (and they all sniff each others bums this is usual - it tells them a lot about each other - he's not trying to have sex with her I promise) - and her hisses are just warnings - I bet in no time they are playing together (which can look rough), washing each other and sleeping together. She is a beauty though! I love torties.
