Planning Ahead

I know we are having a random late heatwave at the moment but are people planning ahead this year?

Early weather forecasts indicated snow in October - it could be getting really bad by end of November then murder through January like last years fun.

Last year we got into a lot of trouble as no-one could deliver and all the local shops/supermarkets were sold out of cat litter as people were putting it down on their drives/keeping it in the car for if they got stuck.

This year - I am ordering about 90kilos (6 sacks) of my cat litter in late October/Early November just in case - if the weather stays manageable then I just don't have to order again for ages if it goes bad - I'm safe

Also gonna be ordering 40kilos cat food and treats etc

All this is also to be shared between our friend Val's Tilly cat and my own four cats.

Re: Planning Ahead

Good plan! Not something I'd thought of as we didn't have our kittens last Winter but I will definitely plan ahead and get in plenty of food and litter to last us over the cold period.

Re: Planning Ahead

I like the way you think hun!!!!

I already order food 2 weeks ahead (so currently have enough stored for a whole month...) but I might start adding an extra week to each order to be on the safe side.

Re: Planning Ahead

I have a small sled like the old fashioned childrens type tht way if I have to walk to the shops I can put my shopping on the back..
Im getting new boots tomorrow and snow grips have been ordered..

Slightly off topic,, My local shoe mender fell on hard times last year because it stayed snowy so long and everyone wore snow boots or wellies that he had no work!

Re: Planning Ahead

I normally get 3 months of dry and 2 months of litter and wet food at a time - so it's not much for me to boost to super stock up though I'm adding Val's supplies into the mix now.

A bit of a stockpile just may save people from a couple of very uncomfortable months if the weather turns really nasty again, even outdoor cats struggled with the snow last year

Unfortunately, storage space doesn't allow me to bulk buy to that degree. I'm already taking my life in my hands when I go into the cupboard to get their cat food out as the tins are towerin up very high....

I could always ask the OH to move out but something tells me I'm on a hiding to nothing there......

I can stock up quite a bit on food, however I want to start feeding them raw (have ordered the trial box!! ) so that may be difficult. However I wouldn't need to worry if the delivery man leaves it out in the snow I might just have to clear out an extra drawer in the freezer and order extra, and stock up on tins as well. Kitty litter shouldn't be too bad in our area, we have plenty of places we can pick it up from

Ooh which raw food are you trying? I really want to get properly into raw feeding but freezer space is an issue, so at the moment it's a rarity. Might try to clear some space this weekend!
