A Good Day

I had a really good day today, went shopping for the kitties.

After a week of 2 kitties, it was obvious the kitty litter we had wasn't going to cut it - so hubby & I went to the petshop to get some more.

They had a special on a covered tray that included 6kg of the litter I wanted to try, so we now have a new tray (though the door is off it atm til the kitties get used to it being covered). Although there are lots of warnings about using clumping litter with kittens, neither has shown any interest in eating the litter we had, so I decided to try some - hoping that being able to remove the pee balls will help reduce the smell, (having to do complete litter changes twice a week atm), and will encourage the boys to bury thier poos more (they do when the litter is fresh but after a day or so the bottom of the tray gets damp and they don't like digging too deeply) further reducing the smell.

I also bought the boys a new toy - one of those mice on elastic for in the doorway, which has proven a great hit and a couple of pouches of Applaws - the first of which went down great with them - so much so that when they got given whiskes for thier next meal I got looked at as if to say - damn not this rubbish again. But until I can get some Bozita in, they will have to live with it, as the Applaws will be a once a week treat.

As far as the Bozita goes - we spoke to the manager of the petshop today, and they are going to check if it's worth their while ordering some in for me - (ie how much they would have to order & what the cost per unit they would have to sell at)...hoping they do - because that way I could buy it 1 months worth at a time - if I had to order online, would need to buy 3 months at a time to minimise postage costs (slightly more and I qualify for free postage anyways)...doable but not for a couple of months...got more important things to worry about like vaccinations for the pair of them.

I also got my first good pic of them together (see below), and it's hard to believe Odin is only 2 weeks older than Oslo - he seems so much bigger though in their weigh-in last weekend Oslo (10 weeks) was 1300ish grams (need to get some digital scales so I can read it in the time they will sit still) and Odin (12 weeks) was 1800ish grams will try to weigh them again this weekend to see how much they have put on.

Awwww....they're so cute!

Sounds like they're coming on really well and they both seem to have good weights for their age.

With regards to the Bozita, I'm not sure if you've visited the Zooplus website but orders over £19 get free postage and one month's worth of Bozita for two cats (pretty sure you can order Applaws on there if you're mixing the two brands) would put you over that £19. Just a thought, in case the petshop can't/won't get any in.

Here's a link, in case you need it: Pet Supplies, Pet Food, Dog Food, Cat Food and Pet Accessories at Zooplus

Unfortunately zooplus don't deliver to Norway (one of the few disadvantages of not being part of the EU) and yes I am jealous of the rest of you - there are so many things I could order off that site (hmmm maybe not being able to is a good thing). I'm just glad I've located 2 online suppliers for Bozita cat food here in Norway (can't get any of the other good brands unfortunately) - if the pet shop can't help I'm going to get hubby to contact the local sled dog shop (yes we have shops here devoted purely to supplying the needs of sleds & sled dogs) as they sell Bozita dry dog food and may be willing to order in the Bozita cat food in for us.

Thankfully I've also found a supplier for Orijin - just need them to respond to the email hubby sent regarding cost of postage of the 400g bags as I wanted to try it out before ordering a bigger bag (they list the postage for those) - but I may just order a bigger bag anyways, and hope they like it - if not I'll donate it to the local cat shelter.

Sorry didn't realise that you were in Norway.

If you can avoid feeding your cats dry food that would be better for them. Here is some information from the Health & Nutrition section about why it's best to avoid dry food: Feeding cats for beginners (and more seasoned cat owners alike)

Re: A Good Day

NP it is a UK based forum after all (my norwegian skills aren't yet good enough to really participate in the Norwegian cat forums), and this site has a lot of information that is relevent to this part of the world.

As for feeding the kittens wet vs dry - They will mainly be fed wet food - but I do want some good quality dry down overnight & if I'm away during the day for grazing - they are probably on about 85% wet now to which I've been adding extra water since I know they are unlikely to drink enough otherwise.

Re: A Good Day

Whee the petshop is happy to order some in for me - I do have to buy it by the box (so 16 tetra packs) but that's not a problem - especially as the price they are selling to me at is cheaper than the other places I found and there is no postage costs. Actually the price isn't that much more per pack then zooplus sell it to - and certainly cheaper than the whiskas they are on now.

Hubby has already been down to order & prepay for the first box of 16 (I'll need more per month but we just wanted to try them on it before ordering more than that). I figure if I order more than I need each month, I can start to get a good selection of flavour choices going.
