new arrival

our first ever furry baby is coming to our home tomorrow were so excited but still really nervous! it has been over 12 weeks now and im so glad its over! but there are couple questions ive gotta ask:

1) should i prepare litter box before we go to pick kitty up to make it all ready for new arrival
2) should i put food in the bowl straight away or should i wait til kitty's meal time
3) should i have toys laying around ready for kitty to play with
4) should i make some chicken as treat to make kitty feel safe and comfortable
5) should i take some toys, maybe some kickers in the carrier with me when we go to pick cat up

i think thats it for now..

any advice would be very helpful

Yes
2) should i put food in the bowl straight away or should i wait til kitty's meal time
I'm guessing you are getting a kitten? Therefore it should have an unlimited supply of food to a certain extent so I would put some out for it. What are you feeding it?
3) should i have toys laying around ready for kitty to play with
Yes, there is always toys lying around in my house
4) should i make some chicken as treat to make kitty feel safe and comfortable
I would tempt it with some normal food for now.
5) should i take some toys, maybe some kickers in the carrier with me when we go to pick cat up
It wouldn't do any harm but not a must.

Enjoy

I can only go on what I did - which to be fair is probably completely wrong but....

Litter box was prepeared and ready for the arrival home

I fed her at meal time, but did have water down ready

Toys were out laying around ready

I didn't have treats and I didnt take toys to collect her.

When she got home we just opened the carrier door and left her to come out in her own time.

Re: new arrival

aww congrats on your new fur baby

Make sure you have the 'safe room' all prepared so you can take little one in there straight away. U would have litter tray, toys, comfy bed/blankets, water & a little food.

How long will the journey home be? If it will be a long journey then toys, water etc will be needed. I would suggest lining the carrier with a blanket to make it cosy & then leaving that with the kitten in the safe room. Could yoy ask the owner if you could put blanket with mum & siblings so it gets a familiar scent.

When baby gets home best thing is to open carrier door, exit the room & give it time to adjust/explore. After about 15min quietly go into the room offer some treats & sit talking softly & wait for baby to come to you. The first night it will probably cry cause it won't have mum to snuggle up too. When i had mine i slept in the 'safe room' to provide comfort, if thats not possible a hot water bottle under their bed will provide some comfort.

Hope everything goes well, welcome to the boards you will find it invaluable
