Petporte or Sureflap

hi

have had months of sleepless nights due to neighbours cats coming in at all hours through Kayla's magnetic cat flap. Both of us are shattered and at our wits end and she is becoming really skittish and nervous

Anyway have been told by colleague at work to get one of these microchip cat flap but can't decide on which as on some websites both products had same amount of bad ratings as good.

My question is which is better. I don't have a socket by the kitchen door so will have to trail wire if i was to buy the petporte (how have most people dealt with this if they have purchased Petporte as I don't want wires etc to be a trip hazard. On youtube somebody who was comparing the two mentioned Sureflap is cheaply made and that the reader is not as responsive as petporte which concerns me especially as I will be away for christmas so will have to rely on neighbours to double check kayla has been able to get in which i don't want to burden them with.

Also can both brands be put in existing hole that my Staywell magnetic cat flap was in- i know the sureflap can be but how about the petporte?

my other concern is i'm rubbish at diy and checking on amazon people mention petporte was hard to put in but sureflap easier

my other concern -sorry for all these concerns just want to make sure i buy the right one is that people have had problems with both registering their cat's microchip and that it's still letting in unwanted cat proof as people have still found strays in their houses eating their cat's food

hope somebody can help me make my mind up
I think i like the petporte a bit more but don't like the sound of the wire and the complicated installation

by the way how easy are the two to remove...just thinking that if one day i was to move house....

any advice will be greatly appreciated

k

Re: Petporte or Sureflap

I don't use a cat flap so don't really know BUT I have heard that other cats can batter their way in if they really want with both of those. COuld you not just keep her in at night and let her in and out of the door during the day?

hi Spid

thanks for reply but i have tried locking her in etc but due to other cats hammering against the catflap it no longer works properly

also I'm at work for 14 hour days so its hard to let her in and out during the day..if only i could win the lottery than Kayla can have me at her disposal

Re: Petporte or Sureflap

I installed a Sureflap as other cats were coming in and eating Frankie's food and he would just sit and watch them eat it .

I didn't like the idea of the mains and cables/wires with the Petporte.

My OH installed it and said it was as easy as a normal cat flap.

I had no problems with it registering Frankie's microchip and it can learn up to 20 cats

Frankie was fine going out through it but didn't like coming in, I think as it has a short tunnel on the outside and the normal one was flat to the door. It took a couple of days for him to get used to it. I tried all sorts of things to get him to come through, tuna, treats, cheese, you name it, even tried to push him through gently. I kept on opening the door for him to come in. He eventually came through by himself

I would definitely recommend one, they get the from me.

If you do get one, install it at the weekend like I did, just in case you have the problem I did, but hopefully you don't

We have a sureflap and could not fault it. I have had another cat battering against it trying to get in and it left with a sore head. Could not fault it.

Re: Petporte or Sureflap

I believe there is not much to choose between the two. But Sureflap can be used using mains or battery whilst the Pet Porte is mains only.

Re: Petporte or Sureflap

My friend has a Sureflap and can't recommend it enough to me - I'm planning on getting one for my older cat who goes out as soon as I've finished buying a few other bits for the kitties.

She fitted it in less than an hour into her previous catflap slot and is delighted with it, no trouble at all with the micriochip reading - and best of all she's discovered that it wasn't one of her cats who had been peeing in her shoes
