Female Cat Attacking Male?

Hi. New here.

Basically, my female cat has always been fine with the male cat. He's a friendly giant, and 2 years old. The female has just turned one, and we've had the male for a while longer.

But over the past few days, every time my male cat cries, and comes home, the female attacks him. He wants to eat and she scratches him, and he runs away over the fence.
Why is this? The male is terrified. I'm just worried that he'll feel left out, and that he'll end up leaving for good.

Any advice? Why is she doing this? She WAS the friendliest cat ever.

Re: Female Cat Attacking Male?

Is she spayed - if not she may be being territorial and wants a proper male (I'm assuming he is neutered)

Re: Female Cat Attacking Male?

Is she in pain or ill that you know of - has anything else changed at all, like her feeding habits etc?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will be along to help you

She is booked in to be spayed within the next week .. and the male cat is not neutered so this may be the problem then ? any idea how much male neutering cost ?

Re: Female Cat Attacking Male?

Our local vet charges around £78 for a spay and £48 for a neuter. I did ask if there was a discount for the 2 to be done together but was declined oh well if you don't ask you don't get I s'pose

Re: Female Cat Attacking Male?

Oh I seriously suggest you neuter them both; males are cheaper than females about £50ish (depending on area) - he will cost you loads more in vets fees as an unneutered male (from fighting and wandering to find females) than he will to have neutered.

And yes I expect this is the problem she doesn't want an unneutered male around when she wants to find a mate and have kittens - in fact I'm amazed she isn't already pregnant! She would fight a father to keep her kittens safe.

Re: Female Cat Attacking Male?

Oh dear

Please get your female spayed in the next week hun. Please also keep her strictly indoors until then too ... and keep your male away from her as well.

If funds are tight and you can't afford to get them both done at the same time I would opt to get your female done first. Males are still fertile for a while after neutering but females instantly become infertile after spaying.

It may take a couple of weeks after spaying for everything to calm down as their hormones adjust.
