Re: Some help please....
"they would be able to go out but only when I'm at home"
Cats are their own boss, they may not come in when you want them to. Have you considered a ragdoll?, they are excellent pets, but are strictly indoor cats only.

Re: Some help please....
I'm surprised they wouldn't let you take on a cat/kitten as an indoor pet, we adopted our kitten from the Cats Protection League, they knew very well that she would be an indoor cat (because we had just lost a kitten to the road). They were fine with that, and the adoption went as normal! We just litter trained her, and made sure she had plenty of stimulation, she's a happy healthy 6 year old (7 tomorrow!).
Did you ask if you could adopt a kitten as an indoor pet? Most adults won't adjust to becoming indoor cats after being outdoors, so a kitten is probably your best option. Saying that, we adopted an adult stray who has been outside the majority of his life, and he's an indoor cat living in luxury! I really hope you can adopt ![]() |

Re: Some help please....
My cat I had at uni was only able to go out when one of us was at home and she was fine with that. I have considered it but they are very expensive aren't they?
Sarah - thanks for your post. The lady I spoke to at the cats protection was very definite that I couldn't have a kitten if I wanted to keep i indoors and sounded quite alarmed at the thought of it! Yeah I didn't think it would be fair on an adult cat who was used to going out. Thanks for your thoughts so far guys!! x Last edited by racheyrooney; 13-11-2008 at 06:51 PM.. |

but two would be quite costly. they are amazing cats. as are all cats if you couldnt get them from a rescue why dont you look for someone in your area who had some kittens? or look on the breed rehoming. there are a few ragdolls on here who need re homing, one in particular, Pickles is such a hunk ![]() |

Re: Some help please....
I am very surprised too as I think that an indoor life is the best and safest option for a cat. There certainly are kittens about at this time of year from private sellers but I would also contact a few more rescue centers because you may find they won't all have the same policies.

Re: Some help please....
I live in Hampshire too and I know a colleague had the same problem. He lives in a flat - ground floor but no garden. He is around a lot so the cat/kitten would have had lots of company but the majority of the rescue centres he tried dismissed him because the cat would have had to be an indoor cat.
I think the Cat and Rabbit Rescue at Sidlesham may rehome to indoor homes. My colleague got one from there in the end. He was a 'mature' cat though, but I know they did have a lot of kittens needing homes at one point, but am unsure what their homing policy is for younger cats. May be worth a ring? Don't have the number but if you google it the rescue has its own website. |

Re: Some help please....
I know someone who got two Cats who had to live indoors from a rescue. I'm sure if you wanted adult cats you wouldn't have the same problem. When I first got Henri I lived in a flat, I used to walk him and he loved it. Henri is not a normal cat though.
