Discusted with my friend's sister-in-law

Get this! My friend is a cat lover just like us on here and when she came over today for a coffee she told me that her sis in law on Saturday had 2 pure white 14 week kittens delivered via the CPL. The kittens hissed at each other during the Saturday evening, they scratched her 8 year old daughter so on Sunday morning she took them back to the CPL

I'm furious!! Surely during the home visit the CPL would have asked her questions like "how would you deal with the kittens scratching or biting your daughter?" or "How would you make the transition between being at the foster home to your home go smootly to settle the kittens given the different environment" etc etc

Why do people do that?? and what upsets me is that I spent months and months considering kittens and searching for "the right ones" and waiting for the "right time" for us due to holiday plans etc etc. Its not something you go into lightly and cats and kittens do scratch. It's not necessarily bad its just over zealous play most of the time!#

Grrrrrr!

The stupid c*w doesn't deserve to be a cat slave with that attitude.

I'd say the kittens have had a lucky escape!!!!!

Re: Discusted with my friend's sister-in-law

ARGH! That sort of attitude makes me so furious. These are the sorts of people who should only have stuffed animals and silk flowers (they would probably give a rose back if it had a thorn on it!).

I had neighbors once who did the same thing with a dog. They adopted from the shelter one day. it was a medium to large dog, probably around 8 months, so still a little boisterous. Their nieces immediately stopped over to see the puppy. Next morning it was gone. Apparently it jumped up to greet one of the girls and scratched her, so they got rid of it. Number 1, she was 13 or 14 at the time, so they couldn't even make a case for the dog maybe accidentally hurting a toddler. Number 2, it was just set free from a cage, the girls were running around with it, and it was still a puppy. A week later, they adopted again.

Some people should really be strung up and shot.

Re: Discusted with my friend's sister-in-law

What does she expect, they are only babies and probably very fightened. What did she expect, surely she should have told the kid to stay away while they get settled as they may be frightened

Heaven help them if they scratched the settee or wallpaper

Duh! Duh! Duh!

I agree - a lucky escape for the furbies. Hope they end up in a place where they're allowed to be kittens.

Re: Discusted with my friend's sister-in-law

This woman and her attitude is the reason why my local RSPCA and CP will not readily give kittens to people with young children. They only allowed us kittens as they met my son on a number of occasions and saw how calm he was.

For two weeks after we got Oscar & Wilbur my son was not allowed to go near them unsupervised. We made sure he was always sitting down when he stroked them, and told him to allow the kittens to smell his fingers and him before trying to pet them at all, as they were babies but he was a big boy (he is 4 years old).

My son took things so gently with the kittens and they have never scratched or bitten him.

The only consolation to this story is that by taking them back straight away they are young enough to be re homed quickly. If she waited till they got past 'the cute stage' then she would have screwed up their chances to find a proper home.

Well said, mine do occasionally scratch but it's more playing then anything...
