Warring Cats

four months' ago we had two new kittens who are now 8 months old. Our resident she cat took an instant dislike, well instant hate, towards these kittens. We have tried everything text book style, introducing slowly, little bits at a time, but every time they are together the older cats goes absolutely berserk and attacks them quite violently (all cats are female). Don't know what to do now. Has anyone got any tips. Many thanks.

Re: Warring Cats

My resident (female) cat has taken an instant dislike to my kittens too (male and female 14 wks). We have tried everything but she still growls and hisses at them and sometimes hits them if they get too close.

I've been hold that she will eventually calm down and learn to accept them even though she might not ever be best buddies with them.

My mum had one resident cat and introduced a 13 week kitten and they snuggled up together after 2 days then when the older one eventually passed away she adopted an adult cat who instantly took a dislike to the resident cat and it took well over 6 months for the growling (by the new arrival resident cat was fine!) to subside.

How long is the preverbial string.......

Re: Warring Cats

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated. The older female goes absolutelyt bonkers and she attacks the kittens. Although the kits are 8 months they wee themselves when she attacks - it is very, very vicious. We've tried all sorts of things during the last four months. We will persevere.

Re: Warring Cats

broccoli has a good point!! Nowadays the kittens have the full run of the house but I don't allow them on my daughters bed as that's Fluffy's space. It's where she can go and chill out away from the mayhem that the kittens create. Sometimes I just plonk them on there to swap scent but on the whole my daughters bed is out of bounds. The conservatory is my kittens "safe haven" so everyone has their own space.

Try Felliway

Re: Warring Cats

Hi and welcome to the forum.Im sorry but i dont really have any advice as I only once tried to introduce two females and it was a spectacular disaster, they lived all their lives avoiding each other.Only one thing springs to mind that you havnt mentioned, are all three neutered. If not this may be a big part of the problem.

Re: Warring Cats

Hi - thanks for comments. All three cats are neutered. Eldest resident cat is 7 yrs and new kittens that we have had for 4 months are now 8 months old.

It's been war since they came home and absolutely nothing will stop the eldest cat from vicious attack.
